  • What do you look for in music?

Is there something specific you look for, when listening to music?

I often find myself searching for a mix of instruments or electronical sounds.
If I personally enjoy the drumming and guitarplay or beat with the melody in a song, I'll probably like the song.
An example being Sadness Comes Home by Converge, where I wasn't looking for screaming, but the intro made me enjoy the entire song either way.

I think I definitively look more at the instrumental side of songs.

Is there something you enjoy more in music?

Other things besides instruments and vocals could include lyrics, composition, instrumental skill, productive quality(May not seem important, but Rush's Vapor Trails certainly sounds better (to me) in the recent remix). You could even evade certain things in music you like (A lot of people seem to evade certain vocals such as rapping, growling and screaming).

So enough from me, what's your general preference(not just genre or artist, unless only that genre/artist has it)

I just search for stuff that makes me feel good, stuff that actually has substance and longevity. There are even music that I have in my collection that I do not understand linguistically, but it is just good in the content and production value.

Typically, emotion. I listen to a diverse range of music - from punk, techno, jazz, folk, pop, classical, medieval. But what I look for is genuine emotional connections. Whether it be the cynical snarling of the Dead Kennedys, Judy Collins' rich and soothing alto voice, the pained rasp of Springsteen, or even the shamelessly shallow but infectiously fun tone of Katy Perry, I just want something that feels real.

I agree, the music has to sound real to me. However, Katy Perry does not sound real to me. As soon as a song sounds like a mainstream radio tune I instantly dislike it.

You should check out Ry Cooder - 13 Question Method. The guitar play is the same the entire song yet it's different every time.

1st is the message it sends.
2nd is the style of sound.
3rd for the Artistry applied and overall vibe.
Last but not least a dope ass beat >: )
