These articles really have everything you need to know, based on extensive test suits performed by professionals:

    • Free (as in free beer, not freedom)
    • Paid

In my opinion, if you employ basic internet hygiene, one of the good free versions are more than enough.

I think you should be good with a free antivirus. I have a good experience using Bitdefender.

Complementing it using spybot search and destroy was a nice addition.

I agree with the comments above. With a bit of discretion about what files you bring inside your network, a free antivirus should suffice. My favorite back in the day was NOD32 but I was provided with a license.

dear friends, always according to my opinion bitdefender is the most popylar free antivirus..

          i experienced it for years.

of course it depends on in which sites we enter in.

I use free version of BitDefender. I have not had any problems with it. And it also "silent" - no ads (if you uncheck promo banners in settings)! :)

I have been using norton for 3-4 years now, very light resources taken and fast scanning as well.

I've actually found that the best way to avoid malware/viruses is to use a program called Sandboxie. It is so effective I don't even need an antivirus program for my computer anymore. Basically when it is activated Sandboxie blocks off all files you access on the internet from interacting with the rest of your harddrive. You can think of it as a "condom" for your internet browser, it works with Firefox, Chrome, IE, etc. When active it even puts a yellow "ring" around your browser window so you can tell its active. That combined with Firefox plugins like Ublock Origin and Noscript, and you're looking at a computer that's nearly bulletproof when it comes to malware.

What I do is use a free antivirus , like AVG or avast or whatever you like + Malwarebytes antimalware free version , scan frequently and your system is secure ,

Are there newer information about the best antivirus? It's just quite difficult to choose the best one because there are so many of them. At the moment I try to figure out everything about the most popular antivirus programs. If you want it too then read more about TotalAV vs Norton. It's a really useful article.
