  • centos 64 bit Yum update not working

    when i try to install rutorrent/rtorrent, Yum update stuck in Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile and no progress there after, i even changed the rseolve.conf but still nothing happen

    is networking really ok? most of the time network failures lead to timeouts.

    if it is u could clean the database:

    rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__*
    rpm --rebuilddb -v -v
    yum clean all

      says if it's on a VPS adnd there's not enough memory it will freeze there

        Can't help you fix you issue, but i think you might miss-understand what /etc/resolv.conf is used for. Its used for DNS lookups (also search order, domain stuff too but don't worry about that) - you shouldn't need to change or edit it unless you're having DNS issues.

        Easy way to check, try using host, nslookup, or dig on a website to see if it returns an IP address (or many in the example given). Eg host google.com
        The other posts above seem more relevant to your actual issue.
