  • Recommendations? Was a seedroots customer

Sad to read what happened with seedroots,
I was with him since '12 and sent him a bunch of referrals.
Now we're all looking for a new provider.

Can anyone make some recommendation for a seedbox service that is

    $15 to $20 a month
located in a country and provider that's torrent friendly (eg not USA)
    ~1TB storage
    unlimited bandwidth
    Recurring payments via paypal
rutorrent front end, SFTP access, SSH access to kill rutorrent process to reset if it freezes.
And some of my friends even though I advise against it, still use public trackers occasionally. So a seedbox provider that's okay with that.

So pretty much Seedroots.com but... with someone else to stay with for the next 6+ years.

Pretty much ditto all of this,I was also a Seedroots customer and this was pretty much the setup, I had. Only difference is I had a Transmission installation. Will be taking a look at your website, MrG.A.

Man, it'll be hard to replace Lardo, I'd been with him since 2012. Dude

feralhosting.com provides all that in the netherlands. You can install transmission, deluge or rtorrent or all three at once if you like. The lone drawback is many people suffer from poor SFTP speed to home but they also offer a "reroute" page where you can try to choose a different route in order to mitigate that. It's 10 pounds or about $14 a month for 1TB of disk space and unlimited bandwidth.

oops, I take that back. It doesn't offer everything in the original post. No paypal but does take credit cards.

I tried superseeder.eu since my OP, I'm not thrilled with FTP speeds and not being able to login due to server not responding occassionally.
If it wasn't for the freeze / access issue, it's definitely worth the price. Responses have been very fast.

Gonna try out now a seedbox.io dedi for a little over double the price but quadruple the storage and it's a dedi.
Figure it's time to upgrade, probably shouldn't be using shared seedbox VPS anyway.
They do have a shared (with 4) VPS for 15 euros, with close the same as seedroots offered.
That could be an option for some looking to find a new provider.

            My sentiments exactly man
If anyone finds anything comprable, please share on this thread.

              RIP Lardo.

My Seedroots server is working fine. I had a couple little problems yesterday but now it back to normal. Can't access the Seedroots site though. Maybe someone that was helping him is going to take it over?

Can someone link or DM me what happened? I can't access anything, sounds like someone passed away?

For those looking, Ultraseedbox unlimited plans are pretty good, not for racing or anything, but pretty good. If you don't need unlimited bandwidth check our their yisp.nl/ plex optimized slots. Seedhost has great offers as well, though not really a provider that does hand holding. Bytesized is also great, really helpful staff, and of course chmuranet, bit on the pricey side, but good for those who want to remain anonymous, never personally used them, but have heard good things.

Kimsufi.com and using of the scripts for automated installation. Get rid of the middle man and be in control of your own dedi server.

I've thought of doing this in the past but to be honest, there are pros and a lot of cons for me. It's nice having a dedi since the resources are all yours. On the other hand, you need to be proficient with Linux because if something goes wrong, you're on your own. Another con about dedi's is you can't get lost amid all the other people with the same IP. It makes it a lot easier to track you if someone wanted to. Plus don't they ask for a lot of personal info when signing up? Can you pay via anonymous methods?

I just looked at the prices and for the same amount of disk space, feralhosting is only pennies more. Granted the disk and it's resources are all yours but it's just not worth all the cons to me.

Dedis aren't really for everyone imo, I had shared, managed to snag a 2tb dedi with a 9k+ passmark for 25eur/ mth during last online.net sales, not looked back since, admittedly I just slapped quickbox on it, but I still play around and learn stuff, lots of linux turorials out there.

I leasing a dedi with 2tb hdd and 16gbs of ram for 16 euros per month. Ubuntu server is rock solid. The script that I used installs everything that you'd want.

I just let it run and forget about it. I do log on the server via ssh to run system and security updates. Really simple stuff.

Price is dirt cheap and you get so much value because of its diffent uses.

You guys are really missing out.

16 Euros is $19.72 US. I currently pay $14.03 and change for 1TB on Feral. My needs are pretty simple and I'm only using about half that space so you're paying over $5 a month more for space I likely wouldn't even be using.
Your 2TB of space and the resources being all yours are a definite pro for a dedi though.

I just think people should also be aware of the cons. You haven't had any problems but if you do you're on your own. There's no customer service that's going to help you out. No Lardo to hold your hand if someone screws something up themselves. :)

You also get a dedicated IP which is both a pro and a con depending on the person. Some like having a dedicated IP but I actually prefer a shared one. A dedicated IP means DMC notices can be sent directly to you based on that. Unless you can pay totally anonymously, OVH or whoever you lease from knows who you are. A shared IP means you can more easily get lost in the crowd.
