  • Torrent setting suggestion?

I recently lost the hard drive I kept my torrents on. I remember I had disabled some settings on BitTorent that I had read you should for Private Trackers. It had something to do with sharing, but now I can't remember what they are. So I am now asking for suggested settings for BitTorrent, Deluge, and other popular clients? Mainly settings to improve my ratio such as not limiting seeding and making it a priority over downloading.

Yes, that is exactly what I was trying to remember! Thank you so much, I appreciate that. I use Deluge on my laptop, I'll have to look for those settings but I also disabled the seed caps. I just wish it had the option BitTorrent has to prefer uploading over downloading.

I'm glad I could help. Just ask when you have a problem.

I just found out that PEX (peer exchange) is another setting I have to disable.

            Really-Ithinkthat'sanerror.

I don't understand where this problem came from , but the TRACKER has DHT disabled, so you don't turn it off in your CLIENT.
Leaving it enabled in yoru client will allow your client to work better for public trackers, and still respect privacy of public trackers.

The only settings I really worry about is the queue settings, to ensure there can be lots of files seeding (lots of 999 settings there lolz) but limit bandwidth to maybe 80% and restrict the total number of connections/slots to maintain speed - or you lose leechers (e.g. they'll drop your 2kb/s dribble and take on another at 20kb/s).

So maybe maximum 4 or 8 upload slots... use auto-labels where possible to set seeding rules (e.g. 1:1 public torrents, 60 day seedtime minimum on private... 30 on soaps... stuff like this helps.

The other settings are all managed by the tracker, however, so just choose a good client (Deluge, qbittorrent are my top 2 choices) - Free Open Source doesn't mean Free. Free doesn't mean you don't pay for it. uTorrent isn't free, it's also half closed (dirty secrets).

                Hi,

Having a look on cache size and expiry may help you too for the seed performance, as the LTconfig plugin available on the site (performance preset in the config). However for this last one do blindly apply all the settings, you have to match the value with your hardware. I've in mind:
-cache size: depends of your HW (and x16 as explained in the help file so 1024 is in fact 1024*16=16MB ram cache)
-cache expiry: 60 is the default, higher value like 180 or bigger can help in a seedbox perspective
-number of connection: described in previous reply,
