  • Graphics help needed.

Hey guys,I need some help, tips and advises regarding avatar and sig making.

My first question is,I have seen in some avatars, there's an overlay of white lines which gives a nice effect, something like in the following pic.

Those lines are small and light but visible enough,so I wanna know how do you add those lines onto a picture likes that?

My second question is,I have seen some avatars, instead of ordinary border, having some eye catching nice borders,I tried deviant art but didn't understand a single thing,so I would like to know some tips and tricks of adding new and nice looking borders.

    Thanks.

    Hello,
About the first question, it's a kind of patterns ^^
you can download this patterns file ( Patterns.pat )
which contains a lot of patterns that can make different effects ^^
first add the pattern file to the photoshop
second make a duplicate of the layer you want to make this effect on ( or select from the Image menu, Apply Image and then OK on a blank layer to marge all the visible layers into one without affecting the original)
third you open the blending options of the desired layer and select patterns then choose this one which is included in the pattern I gave you up, then press ok, ok and see your image
This should give you the effect you want, you can always change the brightness or the blending mood of the layer to make the lines look better
and you can try the patterns I gave you which looks similar to the one above, every one gives different effect ^^

    ..

About the second question, yes there are plenty of ways to make the borders, but can you give me an example (Picture or sth) of what you want the border to be, so I can explain it ^_^

You can make your own pattern in Photoshop, just create a 3x3 and draw the pattern you want. Then edit>define pattern

It's been awhile since I worked with PS.

As for borders, what I used to do was draw them in using the line tool, or selected the whole canvas except for 1-2 pixels and inverted my selection and then filled that black. But there are plenty of ways to do borders depending on the style you want.
