FTN

So FTN is a site which most people are quite secretive about.

This review is an attempt to provide some information on the stats of the site.

From personal experience this site offers:

Fantastic Community



Decent release speeds

Large number of packs


I personally love the community on FTN. It's extremely active, and in my opinion one of the main reasons why it's a site I visit daily.

Explanation for setup fee: Only way I could get these for as cheap monthly was to accept a high setup fee to offset the hardware cost (SSD drives are expensive..). Was either 1 high setup fee or indefinite high monthly fee.
A comparable system would cost at least $150/month, so I'm still getting you guys a really good deal.

The community at FTN is definitely one of the best.

I think what people need to keep in mind is that while people always cite FTN's community as being "The Best", it's not even close to as good as the community here. Log in to their irc, you'll see one of two things: 1) no one talking at all, a desolate empty place of idlers or 2) someone swearing at mods, being racist, offensive, or just all around trolling. Very rarely (although it does occaisionally happen) will you catch a legitimate friendly conversation. As for the forum activity, when you hold any decently active forum up to 99% of all tracker forums it looks active, but to say it's the best community anywhere? please. It's somewhat active, but again not even close to here. As for the pre-times, they're pretty good, and the speeds are ok, but it really doesn't offer anything any other scene tracker does.

Having said all that, most of you will stick by these points because in the end you want it for the same reason most people do, the E-Peen. Lie to yourself all you want, at least I'll be honest about it :)

FTN is a great tracker. Overrated? Sure, that can't be denied, but it's still a really good place. Really nice layout, decent pre times and good packs make this a worthy addition to anyone's trackers. It has great potential to keep moving forward as I have also said about GFT, but without the money they won't be doing so for a long time. No point in joining this tracker for its community, it just isn't there, but regardless I think it's still definitely worth joining if you're ever given a chance.

This, you said it all. And let me correct one thing, pre times are ok not good, and miles away from the bests, GFT and SCC.

There's absolutely no reason to haste your time joining this tracker if you already have those, both better than this. Unless you want to collect.

I have to agree with DocDoom here. I was seeking for FTN for quite a while now and when I finally got it, I was excited to check the content and then start posting after "knowing" about their great community which seems mediocre so far. I haven't joined their IRC yet but the forums are active, yes but the special forums are pretty much dead. Content-wise its a great tracker and so are the speeds and retention.
