One step at a time. I figure an interim step to completely eliminating free threads is by isolating them in a new subforum. That provides preferential treatment to paid sponsors (sticky in main discussion forum + stuck redirect in the new subforum) and it pushes the "fly by nighters" down a level. Plus it provides an outlet for legit dedi users that are looking for someone to share their box with.

@Gamestuff - Can you provide a few examples of legit threads taken oven by free advertisers? I noticed some of threads are fairly pointed. e.g. "Who is the best seedbox company?" I expect something that open would be hard not to reply to, but does the spam extend to neutral threads?

One concern of mine are people creating dupe accounts to spam their service by pretending to be happy customers. If that happens we'll ban all of the accounts involved and add that domain to our auto-block filter. Plus we could block "Starting" member access to the seedbox forums so only 10% or above have posting privs. How prevalent is the abuse?

    Seedboxes and Australian users

    Seedbox question

There are better examples but i didn't feel like digging. I myself have been guilty of it too on the open ended threads although I hate doing it. If someones asking "Whos the best seedbox/who should i choose?" then obviously thats open ended :)

i think we are making progress!

So, since a dupe thread brought this to attention, ill do some grave-digging.

I agree with gamestuff on some points, but not on the point where everyone should pay for advertising. That would almost be like planned economy, and we all know that does not work, its better with "free competition" So i suggest that everyone advertising for his own seedbox should have the same systems as site reps have, that it says seebox rep or something in their user bars, and also for what company. Then it is easy to see if their are recommending their own company.

So i know this won't fix the whole problem, but at least we don't get the situation where the company owners pretend to "help" a unexperienced seedbox user while they are just advertising.

PM asking for invites on your own risk. If your PM is incredibly stupid, it WILL be posted in the mocking block.

Great idea. From a user point of view, I know exactly what gamestuff is talking about. I was searching the seedbox discussion forums looking for some good reviews/recommendations and half of the interesting threads I found got hijacked by someone offering their own service.
