Thread: Simplify the Intro Guide

I have to admit there is an awful lot to read when it comes to joining T-I. So perhaps a completion guide would be more helpful. It could be used to answer common questions and mistakes that new members make as well as cut down on the amount of text they have to read. I have done an example of what I had in mind, just a s a visualisation.

Welcome to Torrent Invites.

In order to gain access to this site you will have to complete an introduction. To try and make this process as quick and painless as possible we have provided you with a completion guide to help you with this process.

Please take care when answering the questions, be honest and include as much info as possible - one word answers, badly edited proofs, or lying will result in your application being delayed or worse still your account being banned.

Once you have completed your intro, a member of T-I will review it. If your application is of an acceptable level you will be repped into the site. The process takes approximately 24 to 72 hrs depending on the volume of applicants we are dealing with and how many mistakes are on your intro.

Ratio Proofs

Your ratio proofs need to be edited to protect you account. We have two examples of how your proofs should be edited. Incorrectly edited proofs will delay your application, so please be careful. Blank out your user name, the last digits of your ratio and the number of invites you have available. The proofs need to be full screen, and include your OS taskbar. Please only edit out that what we have asked you to.

Speed Tests

This must be a direct link, using a server closest to your location. If your speedtest is over 250 miles away your application will be referred to a mod for further checking.

My username is unique to this site

Do you use this nick name on any trackers. If you do you will have to change it. You can do this by requesting a name change via the usercp and stating that you have requested a name change in your intro. Name changes can take upto 72hrs to approve.

I have read the rules and the secret password is:

The secret password is unique to you. It can be found in the rules. If you copy it from someone elses intro we will know.

I think this is a great idea, not only would it help the new members that are joining but it will also help ppl like myself that are working to get their 55% to help in the introduction section.

Hopefully it will help cut down the silly mistakes that get made on new members intros and help quick the process of them.

Ok my take on this, i would definetly get rid of the useless questions like "how did you find us" and "what trackers do you want to be part of someday"

I think we definetly need to continue to ask for ratio proofs mabe just 1 because then we can see if the miget is running ratio cheating software otherwise mods will end up with more chopping block reporst on ratio cheeting which could be solved in the intro section,as for editing the proofs i still think they need to be full screen with task bar showing NO tabs should be covered also i think they still need to be edited so only the first digit is showing in there stats and obviously there username blanked out.Im not sure but IMO i dont think you need to blank out messages,bonus points and active torrents as i dont think they can identify you with these showing,i may be wrong.

Mabe we can change the trading question to format our stance on trading because at the moment even if the miget says they like to trade but wont do it here we still accept them anyway,so mabe change the question from "what are your views on trading invites" to something like "Do you understand agree to adhear to T-Is stance on trading" or "T-I is strictly no trading here/anywhere do you agree to this"

I think its nice that we ask them to tell us a bit about themselfs as we get to find out something about migets before we rep them in

I like the question where they tell you what trackers they are part of as this helps members when doing G/As so if they check properly there not asking for invites to trackers they are part of
I think its assential that they have to provide a speed test as if not they could be lieing where they come from,also its assential that they tell us if there username is unique or not otherwise this may jepodise security on trackers same name here and trackers not good

And finally i like the secret password making migets do this ensures that they read the rules ok sometimes it takes a while but they get there in the end

I took TG's example and just added a couple things to it like an example of the ratio proof and took out the questions what Trackers do you want to be a part of someday? and What do you use torrents for?


I am still debating on whether we even need the question where did you hear from us? Now we can probably rephrase the question How did you hear about us? Did Someone Refer you? If Yes Please state who.

* The whole thing with the introduction section that I would like to see things get simplified without some of the important factors that might come in handy later being left out. The introduction section is a major key for us all because provides references for when we are trying to give out an invite, providing evidence when putting someone on the chopping block.

I think an exemplar as suggested by TankGirl and revised by Hummingbird is a superb idea. A few thoughts/tweaks to certain questions below:

Please list all the private trackers where you currently hold membership, even if you do not use the accounts frequently.

Did a current T-I member refer you to our site?

You do not need to be referred by a current member to get repped in to T-I, but if you were referred, please list your referrer's username at T-I in your answer.

[N.B. My thought is that the only utility to this question is to determine if the applicant is a referral. 90%+ in my experience answer "Google" to the current version of this question.]

Where are you currently living?

What country do you live in? Any answer other than an honest reply to this question (e.g., "my front room", "a planet called earth", "127.0.0.1" or a dishonest answer) will delay your application.

Please describe, in your own words, T-I's rule on trading invites. Please indicate whether you are willing to follow our rules on trading invites.

Our rules on trading invites are very clear in the intro rules you have read. Please describe in your own words whether trading invites at T-I or anywhere else is permitted by our rules. Then tell us whether you are willing to follow these rules (notwithstanding your personal view on trading invites).

[N.B. My thought is that an applicant's view on trading invites is irrelevant since we allow them either flip their views or agree to follow our rules notwithstanding their own views. Why not cut out a largely useless back-and-forth on trading and cut to the heart of the matter. By having an applicant say in his or her own words what our rule is and whether they will follow the rules, we can ensure comprehension and assent to be governed by the rules, which is really the best you can do with a question like this.]

Ratio Proofs

Please provide no more than [2] [3] ratio proofs from your most-used tracker accounts. Your ratio proofs need to be edited to protect your account. We have two examples of how your proofs should be edited. Incorrectly edited proofs will delay your application, so please be careful.

The ratio proofs need to be fullscreen captures, OS taskbar included. Replace the tracker URL with your T-I username and today's date. Cover your user name, your user class, the number of torrents you are seeding and leeching and the number of invites you have available. For each of ratio, uploaded and downloaded amount, leave the first digit uncovered and cover the rest of the digits (e.g., for a ratio of 12.345, leave the 1 uncovered and cover the 2, 3, 4 and 5). Leave the units (e.g., TB, GB, MB) uncovered.

Please only edit out the specific items we have asked you to edit. If no ratio proof is available because you are not a member of any private trackers, you must provide a screenshot of your torrent stats from your torrent client.

[NB: Edited for completeness and clarity. Also, I suggest a cap on the number of ratio proofs we request since some midgets think they need proofs for every private tracker, which is time consuming for them and the intro workers who need to correct a half-dozen or more proofs.]

I don't wish to stem the creative process, but I personally think that if we went ahead with something like a completion guide we should keep the info on it to a minimum. We already have an issue with people not reading the FAQ properly, if we make the completion guide too wordy we will have exactly the same problem.

Agreed, short and to the point should be our goal here.

Of course, the bracketed parts of my suggestions that begin with N.B. are notes to everyone reading this thread as to my thought process and would not be included in the final guide.

As for further edits for clarity and reader usability, how about something like this:

Personally I would rather have someone admit to the fact that they have traded in the past or are still engaged in the activity then to have someone blatantly lie just to gain access. If we give people the opportunity to air their views on the subject without fear of rejection then you are more likely to get an honest opinion. Once their opinion has been established and if it goes against the site policy then you can educate them about the finer points of trading etc and how it is bad for the community.
