Sometimes you see "welcome our newest member: xxx."

Armed with xxx's join date, this gives a usually short period of time that a TIer (or potential TIer) could have been logged in to the tracker and is therefore about as identifying as the corner clock.

I'm not sure that I see what the problem is. I don't think anyone would join a tracker and immediately use that tracker for a ratio proof. Some people edit out other user names in ratio proofs, but that isn't a rule to my knowledge.

Edit: I get what you're saying now. You're concerned that a tracker could use the "Welcome our Newest Member" message to get a fix on when a user was logged on and making a screenshot. With a little bit of work, a tracker could pinpoint when a screenshot was made; which is exactly why we edit the time from our ratio proofs. You have a point there. I've no idea how common of an issue this is, but we should discuss this. Should we make a rule that we must edit out all other user names on our ratio proofs?

I can't see this really happening. By the time a new member reads the rules, creates the ratio proofs and finally posts the introduction, we'll get three new users within the time span. More than not, you'll see users with a near perfect ratio edit except for the corner clock which I see exposed all the time. This is more of a problem than what you're describing.

Another thing would be the user name change. For some reason mods will approve the name change but the title of the thread remains the same. Ohh, just realized this has been discussed a few threads down.

There are still too many variables involved to completely pinpoint the person, because the only thing the tracker has is the approx time of logging in.
I don't think it's that big of a problem, no one is gonna go JACK BAUER on that screenshot.
Alternatively people can use the Rules page (or any other static page) to take a screenshot.

I got lost in the rules when I first signed up, I did read through....and they are NOT in the one single place. I had to find my ways through the rules, let alone other things. The rules are well written, but they were placed in different locations, make people think so how many rules do I have to keep in mind.

May I suggest that T-I has a single LINK on the top of this Forum that states RULES and highlight it in different color. This page would include all the RULES needed for users whether new or old.

Im gonna have to agree with Guns N Roses (& everyone else I guess)...the rules alone take about an hour to read. By far the most thurough rules ive ever seen on the net.
