Thread: Programming section and VIP options

After seeing all the posts are made so far... it seems that a lot people agree to a sub-section in Computers which will be a Programming section.

About the VIP bar status, it seems that some people(including me) like to have both bars; the VIP and the Progress bar shown.

Hello all!

I'd really like to see a programming section. There we could talk in general for programming,releasing our own programs which other may wanted(I,for example, have created a program, that you give it some trackers that you want and it checks to see if they have open sign-up or not. I have been posting to the thread with "trackers with open sign-up" but now I would prefer to just release the program with the source(so anyone could make it better) and anyone wanted could just run it and see which trackers are open or not).

About the VIP suggestion, I know it may sounds a little stupid, but it would be nice if VIPs could select if the progress bar or the VIP bar would be shown below their name. I'd like it better I think,if I had VIP to be able to have the progress bar below my name. I don't say to have the progress bar, I suggest to have an option which you could determine if the VIP bar or progress bar would be shown below your name. (Now I am thinking about it,this even if it gets accepted,if the current "system" is programmed with the way I think, it will be difficult to implent it,but anyway...)

I would really like a programming section. I've been doing a C++ course for my studies, and I will encounter it, among other programming languages, a lot more in the future. So I'm able to help out as well as I'm in need for help sometimes.

About the VIP bar, I guess it would be nice for them to have a choice. But if it's complicated to implement, I would say just don't do it.

We already have a section that you can use for your programming.

As for the VIP bar, I think that's probably coded in with the website and donations, I don't even know if your proposed change could be done.

The most of the threads, not to say All of them, that are in computers section have nothing to do with programming.. There a lot which they "discuss" or spam which graphic card/*insert hardware here* is better or which program do you use about something, but I haven't seen something about programming.

So in summary, I am talking about programming section which it will be either to write some tutorials about some programming languages or share tutorials you have found, ask for help in something, someone could ask for a little program and another member could make it for him/her,we could share our own programs... That's how imagine it! If you want it can be sub-section in computers,but it will be totally different than the current threads that are in computer section. If still someone has doesn't fully understand which is the difference between the section I suggest, he/she could read a little more for programming here.

Just because the section doesn't currently have any programming threads doesn't mean that its invalid to use for that purpose. The description clearly states software discussion; there's nothing preventing you from posting your programming discussions. And we already have a tutorial section elsewhere so you could use that too if you wanted.

So you're opposite to the suggestion? If I wanted to post a program I should post it in the computer section, if I wanted to write a tutorial about programming in the tutorial section, if I wanted to request a program or if I need help to make a program to post in the Help section?
If so, because I respect you a lot and your opinion matters a lot for me,I will close the thread.. and I will be sorry for wasting your time with my stupid idea, as there is no point to be implented.

I just don't understand why you want to put the admins to work modifying a special section for these topics when you haven't even tried to discuss these topics, that's all. I could understand it much better if the discussions have been tried and weren't able to flourish in the current forums, that would make more sense to me.

I guess what I'm saying is try using what we already have, then lobby for change if it doesn't work. At least that way you'll have proof that something different is needed, which is always helpful.

Programming does indeed fall under the guise of "Computers." However, programming a piece of software and actually using that software are two completely different ideas. Programming requires a high level of logic. After all, a program will only do EXACTLY what you tell it to do.

I like your idea of a separate programming forum. We'd still get the "Which is best C++ or Perl?" and "What was your first programming language?" threads, but we would also get the "X Procedure Won't Pass Variables" threads, too. Threads involving tutorials and compiler questions should go in here as well.

How about a subsection of computers called programming, Dave himself said we were missing a programming section and its not hard to click a couple of buttons and add a new section, so I don't see why not.
