I suggest that we have a word counting mechanism to ban 0-effort application such as the one above. Question like "Tell us about yourself", "Your view on trading"... etc... I believe require more than one word to answer. If the applicant does not meet that, the system either stop him from submitting the intro or a ban.

That would reduce our work on stupid intro and put more time on potential good intro, member, cheaters... etc.

Depending on how many intros we get like this should decide if such a feature should be implemented. If there are a lot if them, im all for it!

We get a few stupid intros like the example shown but we generally just ignore them or tell them to piss off.

But the idea of having a way to prevent low-effort intros from being posted or bannage if they get posted.... I really like that idea. Though I'm not sure it would be possible to code something like that or if it would be worth the effort. But I'd sure like it if we had it. :)

As once mentioned in the thread "counting the words", T-I already have the counting characters feature to prevent "too short" post. We can just apply that to count characters because the intro template is divided into several rectangular "text area" http://www.torrent-invites.com/misc.php?do=form&fid=1
We can "force" the character counting feature to count certain answers.

yes , if it's applied on posts , why not applied on intros too ?

Making the links to post new intro is shown after completely reading the rules is a good idea , but how can that be achieved ?

I didn't mean that medschool. I'd like to have the words count on each answers. Answer to questions such as "view on trading" shouldn't be in one word. The system will stop the applicant from submitting the intro if he didn't meet the minimum number of words on each question.

I don't see this feature is worth enough to re-arrange the complex code and strain valuable server resource. On the other hand I like to see the intro forum loads quickly. Also more feature means more bugs, more test and will eat away valuable time of Mod & Dave's.

For counting word case, We have to put form submit type of page where user answer the question in a text box. That can be done easily though. I meant counting words for each question, but replacing template with form (with Q & A) type of page requires couple of days coding and testing.
Secondly, Implementing an algorithm to catch post like 'asdf' or 'bbcc' or '1d23ds' is not going to be easy (bear in mind that I have limited knowledge). It will eat away lot of server resources & memory.
thanks for reading this boring post.

This is exactly what I had in mind. Users won't be able to post in improper format anymore and it'll make things more simple.

This, not so interested. We can create the algorithms later, adding more priority on it as things like this happen more often. The main problem right now is that people aren't making enough of an effort in their intros, and the Q&A system would help organize it greatly. Plus, if we're going to move anywhere, we'll have to spend some days on large upgrades such as this.

I'll see about setting something like that up no guarantee's I have an idea for it but I'm not about to take 2 or 3 days out of my life coding something like what I have in mind, but If I find a mod already made for it I will implement it. The mod would either give the ability to all 33% people to click something which would say something like 'bad intro no effort' and if enough people pushed that button then they would be banned, or the other thing would be a select few frequent introduction invitees would be given banning rights to that single section. Anyway as I stated before I will look into this sometime in the near future.
