Well the script doesn't exist yet. What I've written only parses through the thread listings page by page, but doesn't go into each thread. I'm not against writing such a script. I'm not sure what your familiarity with programming is, but maybe we could collaborate since this will probably be a fair bit of work.

I would suggest that these stats be self contained in an individual post within each tracker review thread. This would allow anyone to make an update or correction (the script would only pay attention to the latest stats entered). A mod who's willing to sponsor this would have to sanction a 'stats template', similar to the tracker review template. I'll extend your example to show you what I mean.

The title should contain the word "Stats" alone:
    Code:
    Stats
Each line in the message body should contain a singe 'attribute label | value' pairing:
    Code:
    Primary language | EN
    Alexa rank | 1772
    Total Members | 500000
    Total torrents | 68916
    Movies | 22440
    x264/HD Movies | 2392
    Music | 16406
    Games | 3099
    Software/Apps | 2707
    XXX | 18965
    Others | 618
Like I said, we'd have to work with a mod to standardize the template. And then you'd have to figure out a way to get people to make updates to all the reviews on a semi-regular basis. If that stuff is well underway then I would start writing code.

Yeah, I know you would morpheuss, but hold off until we standardize the template. There's no point in doing anything until we know exactly what the template is going to look like. Remember, the template isn't something that can just change on a whim, as changing it would break the script. We don't even know yet if a mod would be willing to sponsor this.

that " i will try " was meant to be for that time being... now i have reviews to make... but, i was wondering how we'll be able to provide tracker stats such as users, if the tracker doesn't have a tracker stats link, or smth...? not every tracker has that, i know cause i've been trying to add them to my reviews...

If the stat is unattainable we could probably just put in "N/A" for 'not applicable'.

I saw this idea in another thread and thought that it made sense. Basically to create a blank review for GFT and any other trackers that you guys don't want posted here. A blank would help folks to realize that you don't want it posted and prevent extra work for everyone. From what I can tell the idea was not carried over to this thread as suggested so I figured I'd flip it over here to see what you think.

Our last few posts have been irrelevant to this thread and should probably be deleted. Free feel to do so Vegas.

I am not a very good programmer. I have some PHP experience but little experience working with database or programming for environments such as this forum. The good thing is that the little experience I have is in parsing HTML data so I should be able to understand and contribute at this early stage.

I think if somebody like morpheuss666 gets involved with the review process it will be great since he has an astonishing efficiency in posting reviews and that is the kind of horse power required.

One thing is for sure, the reviews will be even more useful even with partial data added.

I think we have to focus on 3 threads at this time:

    1. What kind of data should be included and tutorials on how to obtain it
(for example I approximated the user base on rarBG review based on some earlier reports I found on the net and comparison with other similar sites factoring in the Alexa ranking. These approximations give at least an idea how many people are on that site rather than Not Available)

    2. How to update the information and the mechanism of reward for those who do
(your posting idea seems good to me and rewards people directly with a post count, also people who give away invites are clearly at least power users on those sites and should be able to contribute. Maybe instead of bumping their tread they can post an update to one of those numbers).

    3. Where to place it and how to tag it

You, or another higher member like Vegas could keep updating a post where these are synthesized, much like the current template is.

The review process will become more elaborate and involve some serious research but the rep point reward currently in place is more than enough to compensate the extra effort.. It is a big challenge I really do think is worth the effort of the whole community and that the review section is one of the most important parts of the site.

Good reviews will be better guides for those seeking invites and keep a lot of people out of trouble and also keep the invitations available mostly to those who actually need it.

My man, I like what I'm reading. If you want to get going on this, I can make a rough outline of what needs to be done programming wise, and you can pick out where you think you can contribute. I would normally use Perl, but if PHP is what you're comfortable with I can change it up. Crawling through the 'Tracker Review' section of TI and parsing all those pages is a fairly big and important job. If you think you can do it (or at least willing to try), I would say that makes for a pretty even split, which would make us partners. And let's not forget morpheuss, I have no doubt that he would contribute greatly to doing the stats updates, and so it would probably make sense to bring him in on the stats template discussion.

At this point, if we want to go further we really should take this offline. Both of you PM me if you want to take this to the next level. I've been dying to use Google Wave for what it was intended.

Hey I'm an alright PHP programmer, if you need help I'm here and ready. If you need anything, just ask ;) (Oh yeah and if it matters, I have experience dealing with vBulletin, used to be an admin of a forum where I customized special pages that I made with user + other forum stuff.)

Great timing Lucky, your help is most welcomed. I really wish to contribute to the review process but I would not want to mess up things more than I can help on the programming side. Let's get together with s2cuts and see what we can do on the technical side.

In the mean time I think we should also keep this discussion going public on this issues:

    1. What kind of data/information should be included in the reviews + deciding what info should be required and what is optional
    2. Tutorials on how to obtain it
    3. Where to place it
I think the review section is really undervalued by many here who still view the site as an indirect trading platform and we should think at ways to persuade people reference it more often.
