Thread: Changes to Intro template (ratio proofs, speedtest)

One big problem with Intros is that applicants often don't understand what we want when they come to the section about Ratio Proofs/Speed tests. This is what they see right now:



Why don't we separate this into two separate boxes, one for the ratio proofs and another for the speedtest?

The speedtest box could say something like: You must post a DIRECT LINK to a test from Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test run from the center nearest your home connection.

And while we're at it we can clean up what remains of the Ratio Proof box. First, there are only three image hosts listed here; yet if they follow the link for more instructions, there are four listed:
imageshack
tinypic
imagebam
photobucket

Do we or do we not accept photobucket? And what's the deal with this y-frog business? Heck even I'm confused at this point! This definitely needs to be clarified and cleaned up.



And regarding the link for more instructions, it gives no instructions regarding how to use image tags. Couldn't we add some basic instructions such as: Please surround the links to your ratio proof URLs with image tags. Just add [img] before your URL and [/img] after it. Example: [img]your.url.here[/img] .

Just these few little changes would save all the people working in Intros a lot of time and I'm sure it would save the applicants a lot of headaches too.

Edited to add: I forgot to say that I think the rules should be modified to require a full browser-sized screenshot. That would help a lot in stopping cheaters in their tracks.

I also agree wholeheartedly... I think also that it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a link to the proper proofing sticky right there by the question.

Agreed entirely. It really does get repetitive having to ask for a local speedtest, as the applicant often doesn't realize they need to post both proofs and speedtest. There's a few other things that can be done in my opinion, but I'll create a new suggestion thread for those some other time.

Agreed with that competely mate, there are too many peeps these days who post only 1 of the 2 things required.So separating them out would be best.
Also regarding the img tags,most image hosts do that automatically,I mean if you upload a pic on somewhere like tinypic or imageshack,there is an option to copy the forum like that already has img tags,so instrad of confusiong them to use that tags,better tell them to copy that 'for forums' link and paste it here

Would a mod or admin care to respond?
This would make things easier on us who are frequently active in the intro section.

Flutrose, I agree with this suggestion as well. Two separate boxes for ratio and speedtests would be cool. Your entire post was right on the money.

My addendum to this would be to also make it required to have some sort of word or phrase to be put into the trackers browse search bars, similar to what many often ask for in the invite section.

Who's to say that these screen shots really belong to them and weren't taken from other sites.
