Thread: Ban Reason in Profile

When I'm browsing the forums I'm always seeing A LOT of banned users. Sometimes these are good users or sometimes I'm just curious, but I like to see why they were banned. So I have a look through the chopping block to try and find their name. A lot of the time there is no chopping block thread. Then I'll have a look at the banlist but there is not sorting or seach on the banlist. One way that I thought of fixing this is putting the reason thats on banlist on their profile so its only a click away from a post in the forum. The only problem is that sometimes the reason on the banlist isn't clear. For example, I can see now that one reason is "....". There is no way for me to know how he/she got banned, obviously the reasons will have to be clearer. Another thing we could do is make the banlist sortable and searchable. That would help too. Some of you may ask how will this benefit, well a couple days ago a saw a banned user here who was active on another invite forum. Luckily he had just been banned so I easily found him on the banlist. But if he had been banned for a while, I would never have been able to get a reason for him to be banned and we would have cheaters and scammers on other forums. This can help make all of the invite forums clear of these scum and make a better name for invite communitys.

I'd simply attach a link to the Chopping Block thread the user got banned due to - that's where the every reason lies, right?

Not sure if it's necessary though - if you care, search The Chopping Block and/or follow it.

But not every banned user has a chopping block thread. I dont think that would be possible to code it to automatically post the link. It would be to much work for the mods.

It would be nice to see it in there profile. Like if you click there name it should say somewhere, this user has been banned for.... The resaon is mostly for Ga's. That meaning is someone got banned for 1 week or month and im willing to give this user a invite somewhere, I kinda wanna now and really its a right to now who's getting my invite and what kind of user the person is. Is the person responsible or not.

Also If that user got banned 1 month ago I really would have no idea as I cant keep track of every users banned offenses.

Another suggest could be, they be given a neg igiver for there actions, and state why, or an infraction. really I think it should be showed somewhere somehow.

Good idea im all for it + 1

The idea isn't bad, but that's too much work. Users get banned every now and then, writing reasons for everyone might be tiring for the staff. However, I've seen forums with stickies with the best reasons (where mods are very creative and have fun writing them, but that seldom has anything to do with true reasons), hehe.

Question: why do random users need to see the reasoning for someone's ban?

If you trust that they were banned for a good reason, does it really matter what that reason was?

It doesn't, that's why we don't have that feature.

The reason that I had was to let users from here report people who are on other invite forums and use the same user name. This is something that I recently did. If you were going to report someone on another board, which may have different rules, they are gonna need a reason. Anyone can see the profiles so there is the proof.

OTHER IDEA: What if all the invite boards joined up and shared the IP address of all the cheaters and scammers? So when the cheat here and get someone banned on a good tracker, they can't do it again? I know that many people who get banned on one forum just hop on to another. Then this wouldn't really be necessary for a permanent ban, only just show a history of temporary bans like chunky's idea.

That's a neat idea about the sharing of known cheaters and scammers. As long as you only shared with forums who's admins you trusted, otherwise some sleezy admin at another forum could use that for personal reasons to mess with someone, regardless of whether or not they were actually doing anything wrong.

Yes yes, I know I ask a lot of questions and that I'm way too paranoid.

Well I was just talking to an admin on another forum that I'm good friends with and apparently they already do it. Oh well....
