Thread: 48 hr rule not being respected & separate topic (find password)

I know everybody in here wants to get to the higher level trackers and easy way to do that is keep your thread at the top of the list to get more attn, thus more igiver and more rep/thanks. The thing is this is unfair to other users and would pretty much be spamming the site all day every day. To fight back, T-I established a good idea of the 48 hr bump rule.

The only thing is new users are doing one of a couple things such as:
1. don't read the rules so they don't know about it and do it
2. wait a couple hrs and keep bumping and say its 48 hrs
3. disregard what other members, non mods and non vips, say to them and continue on
4. do posts such as bump 48 hrs, then 2 hrs later do a "3 invites left" type post not thinking it's the same thing


What I suggest is that there be some kind of penalty for that person, be it by locking the thread, giving a warning, suspension for a day to a week, or even ban if it's bad enough and they disregard the mods,

the only good thing is most of these threads are in low lvl, but since most newbies simply spam the usual sections in Offtopic and General they reach mid lvl w/in days, hrs, even minutes and will eventually do it there. best bet to nip it in the butt is to take it out where it starts, low level.

Guys, don't forget we have a rep system. If someone consistently breaks the rules, that's exactly what a neg rep was intended for. Just remember we have a lot of rules and most people break them accidentally. I'd recommend providing a warning first. I've done it a couple dozen times with excellent results.

i didn't think about that vegas, but how is that going to deter somebody, i would bet most newcomers don't even know about reps because it isn't as clear on your profile as igiver

if they did, they could just all rep each other for random posts

another thing about giving negative rep to people is can't they just give it back to you for no reason?

On 2nd thought, there is an easy way to permanently solve this problem. Why don't we install one of the vBulletin Double Posting Prevention Mods? They'll automatically stop a double post / bump within 48 hours. There's even a mod that will auto merge the new post into the users last post (instead of rejecting it outright).

Yeah the merger works a treat over at other forums. Great way to stop the double posting and illegal bumping.

Now we just need to get a admin to install the mod...
