    Adenai,

I quoted you partly as I did not know you were editing your original post and putting more details. But thanks for the extensive insight. This is exactly the type of discussions I am looking for here at T-I. It's way better than the "What's your favorite fish/horse/dog/cat?" threads. Something annoying that got all this started in the first place.

You really have a point in respect to people who have everything, except for that one invite only being offered in the trusted section. Those people would be screwed in case posts would not count for anything.

In respect to the trustworthyness you have a point as well. None of the metrics would give you a conclusive answer on what the person is like exactly. However, seniority, reputation points and iGiver are measurable, captured in the system and can be pulled in automated rules. They are are good indicators when trying to assess a person. Unfortunately the complete human character cannot be captured on T-I. Maybe future versions of vBulletin will include these features.

In case you find some of my comments and ideas "stupid" or "idiotic", that would be your perception. Fact is that some community members (including myself) see certain behaviour within this forum which we would like to see differently. We are merely trying to think of a solution to change this and make T-I a better place. Hence our discussion and this poll as a result.

I would love to hear your ideas on how spamming can be reduced and what can be done to avoid people coming in, grabbing what they want and run.

    Cheers,
    PP

Feel no offense when I say "stupid" and "idiotic" - "idiotic" is no insult, it's diagnosis, while "stupid" simply means "not wise" - both means it just won't work :)

Spam reduction is a never-ending matter here. I was always a big fan of treating users very strict in their introduction phase (and so it happens) rather than making everyone's life harder by creating more and more rules and increasing their complexity. I also believe spam is not really a problem in The Marketplace (changes of which are discussed here), is it?

So.. once again in conclusion: I don't agree that iGivers should coun't and I told you why (and - I repeat - it's been already discussed in the past). That's all.

In the marketplace itself there is no or hardly any spam. There is a lot of spamming going on (mainly from newbies) posting in other threads though, in order to gain to mid level access. For people who are looking for more than invites (like myself) it is an annoyance seeying somebody vomit crap into a thread just to make some posts. As a result information becomes just data and discussions are disrupted.

Ok... now we are getting somewhere. So what if the posting and iGiver would not count and it would be on seniority and reputation? The whole point being that the posting requirement is the polluting factor here imo and one of the main reasons newbies vomitting in thread.

It's not like that - not all posts count. However, too little IMO (as for now it's Games, Introductions and Tutorials, I guess). I supported the idea of not counting all of the off-topic section posts. I think there should be a poll for that (there was none, it's just been discussed, even twice, I guess). I'd also like to see General Discussion moved to the Off-topic as it's mostly chit-chat + spam threads aka "what is your favorite.."? (You might have seen my parody thread "How often do you brush your teeth?" already). Everything there is actually off-topic to off-topic (sports, computers, etc.). It's a ******* hyde-park :)

I think all other posts should count 'cause that includes sections like Suggestions, Help, BitTorrent Discussion, the entire Marketplace, etc. - these are essential (not off-topic) and actually might show that somebody is really involved. There's not much place for bullshit in there and we can assume that eg. 200 non-off-topic means something.

In case of seniority factor.. well.. I guess I've said that before. Trusted G/A has the 55% limit on purpose, but I don't think mid- and low-level invites should require any seniority. This is Torrent-Invites - ppl come here to give invites and get invites. You can't make them wait (see my long post again).

Everything should stay the same. It's fine the way it is. Let's stop trying to make this site harder to get what you want than it already is.

I like the idea of maybe increasing the REP requirement, and amount of time you have had an account here. This may sift the truly active T-I members from the ones that just make a 100 posts, and get an invite from the Trusted Section that they were after, and then leave the community..

    Here's the major problem -

People never give iGiver/Rep for people helping others out - only for dealing with invites. This is unlike other forums, where helping others out is deemed as being just as important. Until this is fixed, this idea shouldn't be implemented - simple as; Because those who help others out shouldn't be excluded just because they don't trade a lot of invites.

temporary solution: add a rep requirement to mid level.
Then the rest can be sorted out while the spammers spam for no reason... unless they realize that if they thank each other's spam. But, I feel like many of them wouldn't understand the concept.

Well I just saw some people requesting Igiver for their demonoid invites in that thread.( but forget demonoid then:P) This thread covers question about a new system where your number of Igiver is essential to get acces. It is therefore important to speak about how thoose Igivers should be obtained imo.

I must admit that I didn't have time to read all the posts when I posted this so hope that noone else have written this.
