    Default Spam issue

    Hey guys,

Im not a spam fan...i dont like it....it taste bad.
But back to case in point, the general discussion area has become a spamaholics dream. As pointed out by Purplepain in my previous thread "Dunce Sig" that these new members are spamming this section to climb the progress ladder faster than they are suppose to and to hit the 20 post mark so they can enter the mid-level give aways section.

In my opinion it all has to do with the 20 posts people need to do in order to get to mid level. I would say... people would need to be a member for at least two weeks before being able to create a thread or post in any of the non marketplace threads (and maybe some other exceptions). Most of them will be banned before they make the two weeks anyway.

Maybe it also would be good to create a newbie section, to allow them to do their "vomitting" there, so that newbies at least can not screw up real information.

My two cents... T-I is just suffering from its own success and needs to rethink strategy in order to keep this site useful.

Ah... look at me getting carried away. Still love the dunce cap idea.

Spam is always a problem. Also members that join end up raping the site for its glorious giveaways. I for one really am fed up with new members spamming and getting what they want and leave!

Something has to be done. I dont know what, but something. Maybe a small group of trusted members, that are not mod....can look over the general discussion are to kinda keep these guys from spamming.

    Thanks,
    FVSJ

This is definitely no secret. However that is exactly what your inviting when you put a post requirement in between the user and getting what the user wants.

+1 for newbies only forum if you're going to keep post requirement
+1 1 week (or so) waiting list to get into a GA section. Kinda like buying a gun right, if you really want it...... You'll wait.

I would even go further and totally eliminate the post requirements and give access to sections only based on seniority, reputation and iGiver points.

As for any of the forum sections (besides the marketplace) read access could be granted immediately after being repped in. Post access should be given after 1 week or so. Some sections where information value is considered higher, higher requirements can be set.

New newbie vomit section accessible immediately for all newbies after they have been repped in.
Above section can be cleaned from old vomit by the DBA on a regular basis to reduce DB size and diskspace/server cost.

The requirements for the marketplace section could look something like below:

    Trusted Giveaways
    - Member for at least 1 month
    - Reputation status of at least 20
    - iGiver status of at least 10

    Mid Level Giveaways
    - Member for at least 2 weeks
    - Reputation status of at least 5
    - iGiver status of at least 5

    Low Level Giveaways
    - Member for at least 1 week
    - Reputation status of at least 1 (i.e. being repped in)
    - iGiver status: N/A

    No Level Giveaways (NEW)
(newbie section: whatever newbies offer or senior users feed the newbies)
    - No seniority requirements
    - Reputation status of at least 1 (i.e. being repped in)
    - iGiver status: N/A

    Give Bonuses
    - Member for at least 1 week
    - Reputation status of at least 1
    - iGiver status: N/A

    Request Invites
    - Member for at least 2 weeks
    - Reputation status of at least 5
    - iGiver status of at least 5

Nice idea with those requirements PurplePain.

Thanks ironhide for the suggestion on the poll and thank you FVSJ for the good discussion so far.

Poll on change in the way access is provided has been posted here.

    Cheers,

Newbies here must not be newbies everywhere else..dude ,, Not necessarily all they have to "VOMIT" is screwed up info.

The samples u posted are bad ,, u can point it out in the rules or have a limit for new threads started by new members ,, it's always good to make out a good rule

i will post it in suggestions section , hoping not to find u ppl saying i am spamming ! LoL !
