A humble newbie hopes that it is o.k. to attempt to draw the attention to a tiny little detail that so far nobody seems to have considered: unintentional "false statements" concerning the same name, simply because of not remembering all the sites and services where one needs to sign up these days.
In the 21st century, some nitwits go so far as to demand that people sign up to their blog, forum, sharing site or whatever just to see some download link on a file hosting server that does not even have anything to do with them. Corporations force customers to create accounts before they can file a support ticket for defective products, web stores require people to create accounts before being shown the shipping fees and payment options, and so on, and so on.
With probably hundreds of user names and passwords created for all kinds of products, services and communities, private and professional, which all need to be remembered somehow, it would be a miracle if some people did not forget about places they one signed up for, or unconsciously use details they have used one long forgotten day in the past. This may not explain all the 26 guys that the administrator complained about in the initial post, but probably some of them. In other words, not all people who commit the little mistake do so out of impertinence, but rather because of having forgotten or misspelled something.
The mature thing to do would be a warning when it happens, ordering the respective member to change their nickname just as you would when a user name is already in use on a particular message board. It is hard to imagine that anybody would consciously and willfully risk getting kicked out based on such a triviality, especially after going through the ... truly genuine "introduction" process here.
No offense intended, just humble two cents after being a little puzzled by the complicated joining procedure. Personally, I do not care if the rule or process is changed, there are more important things in life than haggling about such minor details, and most people seem to see the warnings in time. Nevertheless, since nobody at all, neither here nor in the other topic, even considered the possibility of an honest mistake, a little reminder of the fact that we are all human seemed to be in order. :) If this is considered heresy, then getting banned right from the start is preferable to getting kicked after having invested a lot of work and time on behalf of what would then be a rather intolerant virtually community, wouldn't it?
Hoping that the latter is not the case, I am looking forward to discovering the marvels that must surely lie behind the fortified entry gates to this electronic village. ;)
Thank you for your attention,
