Duplicate threads closing

Well, this seems to be the first forum I'm in where duplicated threads are apparently acceptable. I've already spotted 3 or 4 in the offtopic area, provided links to the same past topics (or almost the same, e.g. some appear to be combinations of two or are very little extended in other way) and.. they're still alive! Not only it causes a mess, but also gives newbies a chance for making extra posts (and threads before actually searching the forums / browsing farther than the 1st page).
