I think this pretty much explains itself. I feel anyone that is caught using he same username on ti as on any trackers should be permanently banned. I've seen infractions given and short term bans but the people who do this endanger their own accounts, their inviters accounts and the accounts of the people they invite. I've seen the excuse used recently that this shouldn't matter because we do not trade invites here, as far as I'm concerned this is complete bullshit rationalizing as every tracker I belong to says in their fax that the giving of invites on a forum is against tracker rules and will result in a ban. I dont see how some can misinterpret this. TI even reminds you when you join not to use the same username here as you do on trackers and reminds you again in the intro templates if you have accidently signed up with the same username to change it BEFORE you make your intro. It really seems to be an epidemic around here recently and unfortunately there has to be an example made of someone. This is my opinion and I'm stiicking to it.

I'll just stick my two cents in and say I agree completely. If people can't be bothered to protect their accounts then they don't belong here. It endanger the entire community.

On this one, I say we enforce zero tolerance.

I personally find this a bit of a draconian idea, I think many people have a genuine naivety when it comes to this subject and believe they're doing nothing wrong until they're pointed out otherwise.

Personally I think an easier and more effective way of enforcing this would be a simple addition to the introduction template something like as follows -

"I hereby declare that I have selected a username different to that used on my torrent trackers"

To which they could simply put "signed" or some such, if they haven't then they'll realise they need to and can message an admin for a name change (this may need to be stated clearly in the master sticky as being available to them).

If they sign it and then it turns out they haven't tused a different nick then maybe some strong punishment along the lines of what Fugazi first outlined may be in order.

Oh one quick final note, Fugazi, using paragraphs makes larger posts significantly easier to read. :)

Which is the reason something should be done about it and a example of an offender being permanently banned would be a good reason to change their name here.

Im all for the idea but Im not sure making an example of a single member will bring about a global reduction in member=tracker usernames.

This would need to be enforced all the time - but how do you enforce it?
How do you "catch" people using the same username here as they do on their trackers?

If you give or receive an invitation from someone and they have the same username as here all you would have to do is make proofs, pm them to a mod and put the person on the chopping block. It may seem a little ungrateful for you to put someone, who gave you an invite on the block, but it is better than you getting banned from the tracker for their stupidity.

    I totally agree with Fugazi.
Don't you just hate it when you invite someone and then he/she registered with the same nick here at t-i? Or your inviter was the one who made that kind of mistake?

Unfortunately, i experience both. Ban the offenders? Yeah, i believe they deserve it.

I also like Incognito's idea of some kind of an agreement that new members must sign before they could enter the main forum.

I totally agree. I already lost my inviting privileges on BCG because of that and if people don't even read the rules (where it says to use different nickname) they shouldn't be here.

I use the same name everywhere...But I don't do giveaways. Therefore I am not breaking any rules...

So obviously, there are exceptions. But I also understand that I am an exception. Most people are here to do give aways and give invites. If you are here for giveaways then you do endanger your accounts and invitees...
