Thread: Karma Point System

I was a mod at a board way back in the days of FXP Boards (for those who remember those glorious days :laugh:) And the board had Karma point system.



Every member of the board had a karma counter beside there name (similar to itrader)

Now when a member helped another member out either by posting a tutorial, giving troubleshooting tips or technical support they were awarded a karma point by the digression of the mods and admins for really going the distance to help someone else out.

Cause there are members here who simply post 4 word replies to get their post count up, and then there are members who take the time to go the distance to answer someone's question or even post helpful tutorials for others to benefit from.

Not everyone has the ability to give others invites to trackers, but they do have the ability to help and contribute to the board by sharing their knowledge or experience when it comes to various problems or topics.

We have itrader for when it comes to torrent invites section. So why not have a similar system for the many other forums on this board that are not related to trading or giving invites.

This is merely a suggestion, so please take it as such :). Saying "it sucks" or "it won't work" doesn't really contribute anything to this idea. If it sucks, explain why, and maybe a better idea or alternative can come from it.

I have seen this on other forums but it has to be compatible with vBulletin for it to work. The only question now is, "Is it?"

I'm pretty sure it is, if Dave bought a legal VB he should be able to get it off of vbulletin.org.

yea this is nice suggestion, but u gotta realize itraders u get from inv,trade and bonuses. wich is probably best way to di it. if u wanna get itraders from post it would maybe necesarily get a lot of spaming, which no1 wants by my opinion. there r members that r helping each other. post doesn't need to be big to be helpful. for example there was an pole for vips. i choosed elonoir even tho doesn't have any itrader. i saw all voted elonoir. i think that says about member.
so think idea is nice, but also think this is working the way it is right now

and if we put itraders for posts, maybe the essence of this site will go away, and that is invites. new ppl will just post bullshit. same word 10 times so it looks bigger and like that. no invs = no need for this site.

I have also toughed about this. In fact I was already working this out on the pc, trying to remember all I knew about it. Thinking of other possibility's. Had it all worked out once already, only than when I wanted to post it it said I waited to long and back on the browser didn't brought the text back. And I have this crazy mind that when I have typed/worked something out I can barely remember/type anything of it back to what it was. But will post what I had already. =)
Also think this is a good idea, in fact I just got an iTrader for just helping someone without ever trading anything... ¬¬ And that isn't where it's meant for...

I think this could be a good idea to see how qualified or trustworthy somebody is, and also be able to be rewarded for other things than trading. This could have the effect people think more about their post and about what they have to contribute. Maybe make them put up some tutorials since it gets them reputation/status and not let them post stupid things other can irritate themselves about since it could give them a negative rating.

You could do this in several ways, these are a couple I have toughed of. And also a couple I forgot since this isn't the first time I had to type this.

Firstly a very simple rating system, thumb down, thumb up. This could be done on user basis or post basis. If you choose to rate the user it could be easily be put under the iTrader with a thumb up, thumb down and a total score.
If you choose to also relate it to the certain post I would also put a small section under the post with how much the person got thanked/rated. Or how many user liked the post. Also posting a section on the profile and/or with around the iTrader section. Rest could be used the same. =)

That brings me to the next option. Add a small option to thank a user for his post. Also add a small section under the post if the user is thanked.

Some text I have gotten back but hadn't worked out yet:

Karma calculation: thank x postcount x iTrader x
Higher reputation gives more reputation up/down with other.
Lower reputation gives less, to lowest won't be able to vote at all.

I also had some other options but can't get them back as how I wanted them. They are almost gone completely, though I think they were the best...
Let me know what you think about it, or what could be improved. =)

What do you mean "if" i bought a legal vbulletin klassic? =D

We are 100 percent legal here.

Anyway this system is called the reputation system and it is currently a intergrated feature in vbulletin. I disabled it however cause too many systems made it confusing?

Think about the new members guys and tell me you don't agree

Besides those that are helpful generally build up a reputation anyway, people remember them and they get noticed by mods, get lined up for promotions etc

yea maybe som1 could scamm, creating multiple acc's and than giving itraders to himself. well i like this system, my opinion
