Thread: Improving Tracker Reviews

Hi,

There are a few trackers that have two reviews (maybe more), and for a newbie it might be confusing, and for a seasoned member, not always easy to remember other reviews exist. Plus, when we have several reviews per tracker, members can revive an old review with outdated content making the newest review less visible.

I would like to suggest that:



a. we add in the tutorials or a sticky somewhere, that there might be multiple reviews for a tracker, recommending to do an advanced search of the tracker's name or acronym, instead of a simple search. The simple search might return in the first page the oldest review and the newest only a few pages later. The advanced search set to search in the trackers review category only will display all reviews for that trackers in the first page.

b. we add a field in the tracker review template, for the reviewer to paste links to older reviews if they exist

c. we improve the thread titles of the tracker reviews to include the year of the review. So for Bitme for example we would have :

[Learning] BitMe (BM) 2010 Review
and
[Learning] BitMe (BM) 2011 Review

Or we could park the older reviews or lock the thread (close them), but I think to tag the thread title with the year of the review is probably neater.

We do close or lock the older reviews.

Example:

New HDC : HDChina (HDC) Review

Old HDC : HDChina (HDC) Review (locked)

New NT : Nordic-T (NT) Review

OLD NT : Nordic-T (NOR) Review (Locked)

Thanks Rebirth for the input, it just seems it's not done systematically for all old reviews.

it can't be systematically done. the moderator locks the threads.

Also to help you out a bit. click on a tracker and scroll all the way to the bottom and you should be able to see similar threads

Thanks, I don't always think about the similar posts, I don't scroll all the way down, I'll be sure to remember that.

I was just trying to suggest an improvement, and it's often fresh pair of eyes - albeit a bit blinded by newbiness - that can help see things differently, so I thought it was worth mentioning.

Sorry to be heavy about this, but here's a good example to illustrate what I meant by the need of improving how we organize tracker reviews:

IPT already has a 2011 review, so this review makes it the third for a tracker that didn't change much since the last review.

Being very new to TI, I understand that making tracker reviews will get me rep points - but if I make a review of a tracker that already exists, it has to bring something very new to the table, doesn't it ?

For this particular example, and I am in no way addressing this personally to the reviewer who did an excellent job, besides the banner change, nothing much is new. So shouldn't we use this thread instead of creating a new review : The Help Desk needs your help with tracker reviews

I don't know, I guess it's a bit confusing all these reviews for the same tracker. When I want to research a tracker to understand if it will meet my needs and if I will be able to be a good long term user, I often have to read several threads, when maybe if it was organized slightly better, it would be easier to browse, no ?

All i can tell you is the difference between the latest IPT review and the other one is that IPT just revamp there servers and search tool.

I agree that the tracker review section need improvement. Let hope some staff can help answer or provide better assistance on this suggestion.

Hi Kyllah, Thanks for taking the time to clarify :) Agree with the 6 months age of a review, sounds like a reasonable life span for a tracker review.
