    Default Warnings / Infractions

    Hi T-I!!

So here I am with another suggestion!! (be easy on me)

So I like to look at the Chopping Block frequently to see what’s happening in the world of T-I.

I was thinking whether it could be possible for some kind of sign/logo or just a description under the profile for users that have been given a warning or infraction? I don’t know the rules behind how this works as I’m not a mod but thought it could be a good idea for individuals to see which user has a warning when checking on their own GA’s.

I know we’re expected to check user’s history anyway before we invite them but sometimes it is easy to miss things and thought it would benefit everyone.

For example if somebody gets a warning for so many weeks, maybe a small warning sign/logo could appear under their name for the duration of the warning as it’s easy to see which would alert the inviter to think why has this person got this. Even clicking on the sign to take us to the CB thread where it was bought up so that the user gets the full story of why the individual was cautioned.

I’m not saying this should be done for all types of offenses but maybe just for serious matters as sometimes people can get warnings for honest reasons.

Let me know what you think.

Sounds like a good idea actually. Although its up to the coders I suppose. On the other hand, isn't there is a counter with each user's warnings in their profile page?

By the way, can I have that lighter that this weird black helmet wearing dude you have as an avatar?

    Double-plus-good suggestion!

It could even have an expiration date on the warnings--so that after a set amount of time your warning history is again hidden from view. Or maybe rep-point-buyback from public viewing of the warnings/infractions would be cool. We'd want people to be able to buy their way back into trust, either through time/participation on the site or rep-points.

Of course the labeling in of itself becomes a punishment, so it may change the dynamics of the warning/infraction system.

I like the idea on the face of it but I think it could dramatically change the site for the worse as well.

The reason why infractions are not shown is simply because they would be excluded by people when applying for invites. Having a warning/infraction is like having a black mark and because people can't see the reason as to why that person was infracted they assume the worst and so they exclude them. So I'm sorry but I am against the whole idea of havings previous/present infractions visible - everyone here should be given a fair chance, if they have done something massively bad, they wouldn't be here ;)

Why are expired infractions still shown on our profile? Even those that carried no points with them are still shown.

In my eyes, if something has expired then it is no more and should be removed completely. Isn't that why we have user notes?

It's no different to getting a written or verbal warning from your employer, they stay in effect for a predefined period, same as infractions, then once the time is done it's a clean slate, completely removed unless you have repeated the offence.

I brought this up before and it was shot down. I almost lost my GFT account because of a cheater I invited here. Once he was banned via the Chopping Block, it was only then that I found out that the guy had numerous infractions. Had I known that, I wouldn't have never given him an invite.

I really don't understand why this cannot be public knowledge. And yes, people would discriminate against people with infractions, all the more reason to not get any.

Here's the two threads you are referring to:

    Torrent-Invite Member Attribute Question
Infractions for all users should be public or made available upon request

As was stated before - If infractions were visible, that a person would probably be persecuted further by denying them invites etc. even though they have already been punished for the offence, irrespective of how minor that offence was. The infractions given out here are for breaches of T-I rules, just because a member has received an infraction here does NOT mean they are a bad invitee, granted there are exceptions to the rules, but not enough to warrant punishments being made public.

Infractions will always remain on a members record, for history purposes - not everything is noted in a persons user notes.

    Suggestion Declined.
