Default Tracker of the [time period]

My idea for something engaging - a Tracker of the month/quarter.

The nomination system is up for debate - it could be from a user lottery (a [high-level] user is picked at random, and given the opportunity to choose a tracker), a staff member's choice, or a vote. Maybe users would register for the lottery so someone random and unwilling wasn't selected?

Regardless of the way the user is picked, the user then chooses a tracker to become the Tracker of the [Time Period]! The purpose of this would be to raise awareness of interesting/small/awesome trackers that some might overlook in the overwhelming list of reviews posted in Tracker Reviews. The user would write a post about why they chose the tracker they did, why people should be interested in it,

This idea provides several opportunities - Cool, little known trackers can be brought to light; New T-I members can be given the opportunity to be exposed to excellent trackers that the more advanced members know and love; Because this would create quite a stir about the tracker nominated, it would give many people an opportunity to give away loads of invites that might otherwise be tricky/slow to give away; and one user/staff member a month/quarter would get to shine in the limelight for a bit and get their name known by more people.

So whaddaya think? I think it'd be a great, informative addition to the site, and it would bring people to the homepage in droves every month.

    This is a good suggestion.

I don't think a vote is a good idea to pick it, as votes generally tend towards the already popular sites (I'm assuming a large part of this is recognizing underrated trackers), which kind of defeats the purpose of this idea. I think a staff pick or a high level user would be an appropriate way to choose, as they likely have more insight.

Agreed - that's the option I'd lean toward, but I wanted to make it clear that this wasn't a specific, closed idea and that innovation/change/thinking outside the box is encouraged

That being said, feel free to throw out ideas on how to make this idea swim!

We have had similar suggestions before, i don't think this will work due to the fact that the mentality in the torrent world is like a sheep wagon and most people will bable the same thing about the same trackers or talk non-sense about places they never saw themselves.
Also, most lesser known sites wish to remain that way.
