We can't use a Torrent client all the time for download activities, there is always something we need from a single source directly from our web browser, either because it's the only share available or to save time.

Homepage
JDownloader is an open source download manager written in Java, with the main purpose to download from every server that provides storage services (Ex. Megaupload, rapidshare, etc, etc, etc), the only thing you need to do is provide the share link of the file and it will do the rest; it will check if it's available, beat the captcha, download the file and even extract it or join multiple PART type files (The ones with the extention .001 and such), and everything will be done automatically; common HTTP links are supported as well.
The best thing is that you can change the settings to tell the program what or not what to do, and mainly, how it should work.
As a general download manager works excelent, because not only every link leading to a file (Even coded links) on your clipboard will be exported to the link manager waiting for your configuration and approval, but also you can put a specific number of links on "boxes" or "packages" (Work similar to folders) to organize everything, every box or link will be saved on the list until you decide to delete it, make container files to distribute your links or encrypted backups, a customizable reconnection feature to skip the time between every download (Basically changes your IP), it even supports premium accounts so you can download as a premium user with JDownloader (Don't worry, the Devs already stated that they respect the users' privacy), along with other many functions.
- The Basics
Now I'm going to explain the features you will be seeing the most.
- These buttons are pretty obvious, nevertheless, this works as an universal control for everything in the download list.
- With this you can order in any personal way every package already in the download list. You can also do this with the mouse by drag & drop, which is eventually even more easier.
- The first one toggles the linkgrabber, the program will detect automatically any links in the clipboard that leads to a file if it's activated.
The second one toggles the automatic reconnection (A dynamic IP is needed), this feature is designed to beat any kind of time or download limits. (It can be configured in Settings).
The last one works to stop downloads after the current ones have finished.
- For manual reconnection and Update (The program checks automatically for any update when launched, but you can always do it manually from here).
- This shows the real-time download speed based on the connections of your current downloads.
- This is to establish limits, like the max limit of downloads/connections working at once (Ironically, the limit is 20), and download speed (0 = Unlimited).
The most useful commands for the list's management can only be accessed in the context menu (Right click).
And it also counts with a Info Panel which gives the details of a package or a single link. It can be either opened by double-clicking on any item in the list or by choosing "Properties" in the context menu.
- Link Management
In this module is where you "setup" your downloads, any link grabbed by the program ends here (They also can be added manually).
It's pretty much the same to the Download Panel, but it's designed so you can work specifically with the new links that you want to be added, and has unique commands to make that simple: Delete unwanted or bad links, using filters for file extensions, creating packages for only related links, choosing different directory locations for every one, loading a list of links from container files, specifying a password for compressed encrypted files, leaving a commentary for future references, etc, etc.
- Advanced Settings
This section is to customize the program in any way you want, from an advanced reconnection script, to a simple visual style change in the interface.
There are a lot of settings which are pretty much self-explanatory so you won't have problems with them, however, if you are a bit lost you can always hover your mouse over them to bring a small description of their function (Also works for any button in the program).
Hope this makes things simpler for everyone, I'm personally fascinated with it, specially because the program can be left with many links while you do other things.
