Default Keep all stats and torrents in utorrent when changing OS

This does also work on other torrent clients
but it has only been tested by me on utorrent and bittorrent
Basically this works best when you keep your torrent folders on a separate drive or partition to your OS drive.
But this is what I did
I made sure that the drive letter would be the same, so I wrote that down. Then i went to "C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\BitTorrent" and copied all the files onto my bittorrent drive.
next you install your new OS eg from vista to windows 7.
All you need to do now is install your torrent client. let it start up, then shut it down. Now go to C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\BitTorrent" and copy and paste the files that you put on your bittorrent drive.
But you must ensure that all letter drives and paths have been kept the same.

    ALSO

    I recently changed my torrent drive from a 1TB to a 2TB
all you have to do is copy and paste your torrent folders onto the new drive
then go to device manager and change the drive letter, and if all the paths are the same it should work

    EG
    E:\bt copy that to G:\bt
then just change the G drive's letter to E and it will work. Depending on the computer it may or may not do a hash check, For me it did not.

Hope that helps people who have a problem when they have over 300 torrents going and need to re add them and want to keep all stats and labels, and any other settings.
YES this will keep all settings so if you optimized Utorrent the settings will be kept.

Nice piece of information there, though have been using this from long time now../

Actually you dont need to remember that long address,

    Just type in => %appdata%
In the run/search files (box when you click on start in Win 7), and the roaming folders opens automatically../

Actually entire setting of uTorrent is saved in that folder.. So keeping a backup of that enables you keep all your labels and the necessary settings (like port, drive, encryption, speed etc) entact, and you can very well use that in future../

Moreover, you can very well use the same funda to make a backup of your Firefox settings and addons (At least I have been using it), this will store the entire Addons and setting in Firefox, at any given point..

Later after formatting the system when you re install Firefox, just replace the current folder in Roaming with the one you copied earlier and allow the copier to replace the same files./

Tad ah, you will see each and every ad-dons are back as well as your previous settings.// Wonder full isn't it, try for yourself../

    Thanks for the addition
What I do is I back up some folders in my APPDATA folder using microsoft synctoy, using echo settings, so I have a copy on my bittorrent drive, that means that if my computer dies I grab the hard drive and put it in my old desktop and torrents keep going.

    ^^

Yup, it only links with the drive letter and the address set../

So if it remains same(or if you make it so), uTorrent will automatically identify it by using the torrent file at the specified location../

Thanks a lot for this! I have changed/reinstalled OS's 3 times and I have lost my stats every time. This is awesome!

Awesome information for those that want to keep everything. I normally just re-point to the torrent file and it does a recheck.

Great advice. I am very close to a re install and have a data drive set aside so this will make the re install all that much less painful. No having to restart all my Seeding Torrents. %appdata% FTW!

if someone uses apple computer, I think they can copy the whole app from the app folder then copy and paste it back in the app folder in the install.
only one problem, when do mac users every re-install OS, it's not like you buy apple OS and install it, unless you are upgrading but still. Jobs hates giving OSX CD's out.
