Working for Geek Squad (say what you will haha, it's a job doing something I like), we have used this tool to recover files and photos. It does an "OK" job, I personally recommend RuntimeGetDataBack for NTFS/FAT. I have never had that program let me down after multiple formats/reinstalls/data deletion. Fairly easy to use, and easy to "obtain" :) - just a suggestion.

RuntimeGetDataBack for NTFS/FAT is excellent for recovery, it can recover deleted partitions too but it won't help you if you overwritten your data with new content.

for data recovery is indeed a difficult and important part of IT world these days especially with the Mammoth size hdd now coming in TB's .

I used couple of softwares as my hdd crashed some 2 months back.
The most useful tool i could find to recover my data completely for FREE was DataRecovery

    Cheers

the DataRecovery works with multiple times formatted data too. just full scan with it and it will get back files which were formatted SEVERAL formats ago.

All u need to do is a Full Scan and with nothing typed in the search bar(will take hours for sure) but once its done u will see how well it recovers the data.
I recovered my 1st oem data that with the 1st install on this hdd came with my laptop from this software and it works cheers.
