Default How to keep your data safe from viruses without anti-virus

ok, some people just rar their data to protect them from viruses, but then it takes alot hell of time to unrar, so if you want to get rid of that time wastage just convert your data to an iso image, and the viruses wont damage your data, and then use your data with the help of any cd-dvd software like Alcohol.

I guess it depends on what kind of data we are referring to. Passwords/Emails/Documents/Pictures can just be put on to a USB Thumbdrive periodically, and 2GB drives are only like $10 nowadays.

A safer way, I think, is to use online backup services.
The problem with CDs, DVDs are their fixed sizes. If your file is > than what a CD or DVD can hold, good luck with splitting it out into smaller portions. A good way is to use an external storage but one again, large space require big $$$.

So I used megaupload lifetime account as the mean to backup my data. The cost for a lifetime membership is $200 (not cheap) but you have unlimited storage. I have 500 GB of stuff up there already and I can download them anytime. Furthermore, I can upload as much as I'd like to. Most portable hard drive (pocket sized) with acceptable size (500+ GB) cost about $100, so what wrong with another $100 for a megaupload account and don't ever worry about space problem.

How much you spend on a 1TB external hard drive?

The only problem I see with an online storage is that your not in control of your information, say that the site is gone or if there system crashed and you lost your info, its a good idea to keep any important information that you have on a few different methods. I would say use a thumb stick and a hard drive that you unplug when your not using it.

All these methods are good, but none is 100% safe ... The safest is: Select your important data (really important data!) and copy to a CD or DVD, from time to time .. When you copy a CD / DVD, the older can be dropped ... This method is not the cheapest nor the most practical, but it is certainly the safest. If you have something really important, then copy to cd / dvd!
RAR, ISO files, flash drives .. online storage, all fail more than a good old CD.

    please just use an antivirus!

viruses are only spread cos some guy thought he didnt need an antivirus...if he gets infected, everytime his computer contacts other computers, those computers that dont have antivirus also get infected ....and this increases exponentially...

this guide was totally unnecessay... since ur iso will just get corrupted if the virus cant attack it, and anyway, all decompression softwares can open isos nowadays...and theres actually a bigger chance that files will get corrupted by putting it into the iso, then extracting it then recompressing it, then extracting it, then .....etc

if u need ur data to be kept safe, leave it alone, making copies of copies of copies is dangerous!
