Ripping a DVD to an .AVI
Can be streamed on a PS3 using MediaLink or one of the other streaming apps to watch on your TV from a server or a computer sharing the videos.
Tools Needed:
MacTheRipper - mactheripper.org or versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22715
Rips the movie and removes the copyright, regions, etc...
Handbrake - handbrake.fr (Download 0.9.1 from older versions)
** the new version crashes on XVID
Takes the VIDEO_TS folder from the rip and converts it to a movie file.
Instructions:
1) Open MacTheRipper
2) Insert DVD
3) Change the settings to extract it to your chosen location
4) Click Go
5) Open Handbrake
6) Click Source Button
7) Choose Video_TS folder
8) Click Open
9) Choose a destination for file to be saved to
10) ** USE THESE PRESETS (Took me time to perfect for PS3, built in PS3 setting won't play - Data Error)
Format: AVI file
Codecs: MPEG-4 Video / AC-3 Audio
Video Tab:
Framerate (FPS) - Same as Source 29.97
Encoder: FFmpeg
Check 2-pass encoding
Target Size: 700mb
Click Picture Setting button
Width: 704 (Might change a little depending on movie)
Height: 304
Check Keep aspect ratio
Deinterlace:fast
Audio Tab:
Track 1: choose the 5.1ch if available, 2.0ch otherwise
Track 1 Mix: AC3 Passthru
11) Click Run
Wait and watch movie when done.
Note: You can use MP4 settings, or the default settings in Handbrake, etc.. if you do not plan on using it to stream to a PS3.
