Default How to: enable 2 pass in ConvertXtoDvd

    Hey T-I,

This tutorial is gonna show u how to enable 2 pass in ConvertXtoDvd on any Windows OS.

ConvertXtoDvd is a great program for converting all kinds of video files > avi, h.264, wmv, youtube, etc.. to Dvd format so u can watch them on almost any stand alone dvd player. It is one of the best video conversion programs out there and the best part is its really easy to use. More info can be found here: AVI to DVD Video Converter Software VSO ConvertXtoDVD Download now

For those of u who didnt know, ConvertX has had 2 pass included in its program since version 3.4 - 3.6 > (i believe). However, there is no actual option to enable this in the settings menu. The actual option will be included in the program when version 4 is soon released, but for now it still can be enabled with a little work. Its really easy to do and should only take 3-5 minutes if that. Befor you start you should have the most updated version of ConvertX, which can be found at the link posted above. Here we go:

Warning: Before u start BACKUP your registry or you may be sorry! If you hose your machine it's on you. I will not be held responsible if anything goes wrong. When editing an item make sure u do it correctly or there could be some bad issues in return.

1] > go to start > run > type regedit in the run window & press enter > the registry editor will now open >

2] > In the registry editor, u need to browse to the following entry key (to do this u can just click on the first key and press the little + sign to get to the next key. Keep doing it till u get to the entry were looking for) > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VSO\ConvertXtoDvd\3.0\S ettings

3] > Now once at the key in step 2, you should look on the right hand side of the registry editor. U will see a bunch of entries (ex:Burn_No_Failure Warning) > scroll down & look for this key > enc_twopass > double click on it and an edit box will open > There will be 2 entries one for value name and the other for value data. We want the value data (it should already say FALSE for the data) > now just change FALSE to TRUE > then press ok and close the registry editor & restart your computer.

4] > Thats all it takes. ConvertXtoDvd is now 2 pass enabled. Remember converting will now take a little longer then usual, but it will bring u even better results. **If u want to change back to 1 pass, just follow the steps above and change the value data back to FALSE and thats it**. This is really easy to do and like i mentioned earlier should only take 3-5 minutes if that. ConvertXtoDvd is a great program and i use it everyday with never any major problems. I look forward to version 4.

This is what it should look like after enabling 2 pass:

The convertx team has put the two pass in the software. It just has not been made an option in the settings. It will be in the settings on version 4 when thats released. Im sure they wouldnt of added it in the program if it didnt help.

I cant tell u how much different the 2 pass is for u cause everyone is gonna have different outputs. I can tell u what i think about it or what i do. Like u said 1 pass is great and will be good enough for some people, but 2 pass is a great option when needed. I only use 2 pass if a movie is over 100 minutes, anything less i will use 1 pass. To me i see a difference when using 2 pass. It fix's what the first pass didnt, like pixelation, color, etc.. It makes converting longer, but that doesnt bother me.

I belong to the convertx forum and there is no link. The explanation is in the update history of the program. It explains when they added the 2 pass in there. All us beta testers know about this option. Convertx doesnt want people messing with the registry by themselves so they didnt publicly release how to do this. It will be released real soon as i been testing version 4 for quite some time now. Thats when it will be explained in depth. Until then i gave a tutorial on how to enable it.

Right..its great to have all those kind of hidden info from a beta tester like u in this forum..im looking forward for the next tips and tricks or any good info on tweaking convertxtodvd from you soon.Maybe i should try this tuts and see the results myself..But as for now..i only use 'never deinterlace' on Video Processing setting and the results is quite noticeable on my video. It smoothens the vids and i havent got any issues on dumping 5gb-6gb max videos to fits in 1 dvd.No hickups, and smoother than 'deinterlace' mode.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.Keep on posting here if u found any good tweak. :)

De-interlace is a great option & should only be used for interlaced films. I use that on most of my t.v shows, as most are interlaced. U should also use it on home video cams or digital cams. However, dont use it on most movies cause most movies are progressive and if u use it then it causes artifacts and vertcal lines. I ususally leave it off until i need it. U can find out if a film is progressive or interlaced by a program called gspot. Just open the movie in gspot and it will tell u all u need to know about the file. It only takes 1-2 minute also. Great program to have to running next to ConvertX.

Great tutorial! Never gave it that much thought until I saw this, to enable 2 pass. I use this program on occasion, and really like it. Does what I need it for with ease.
