We seem to have a lot of newbies entering our site and I came across a forum thread in the Help section asking how to RAR a file. Hopefully, this will simplify the process and relieve yourself of some aggravation when you start uploading some torrents. What this does is create multiple RAR files that are uploaded as a torrent. Not all sites require this process, but it's always good to know a little bit more about torrenting that you didn't know already.
When you want to RAR a file(also known as archiving), simply highlight the file or folder that you want to RAR and right click on it and highlight "Add to archives" as shown below.
That will open up the WinRAR program and you should see this screen.
At this point, your almost done. There are a couple of boxes that need to be checked and they are "Create Solid Archive" and "Put Recovery Record". Next, change the compression method to "Best" and finally, you need to put in below the compression method, how big you want each of your files to be.(We'll touch on that at the end). I've highlighted the areas that you will need to adjust.
Next, click on the advanced tab and check the box that says "Old Style Volume Names"
That's it, click OK and let it do it's thing. It's pretty simple and the set up only takes less than a minute. The processing will take the computer a few minutes to complete, though.
As far as how big you should break up the files into, there is a standard that is followed. Keep in mind that the amount that you set in the "Split to Volumes" won't be the size that the files end up being. Below you'll see the size entered and the result after the archiving process has completed. (Don't adjust your input number so that it comes out to be a number that you want. These are the norm and standard within the torrenting community)
File Size:
4.8GB-9.41GB(DVD9)
Split To Volumes:
Enter 103,000,000(bytes)
End Result:
98.2Mb(Ea File)
File Size:
1.8GB-4.7GB(DVD5)
Split To Volumes:
50,000,000(bytes)
End Result:
47.68Mb(Ea File)
File Size:
0MB-1.7GB(XVID/AVI/VCD/SVCD/MOV/MPG)
Split To Volumes:
15,000,000(bytes)
End Result:
14.3Mb(Ea File)
If you have any questions, or if this tutorial is about as clear as mud...let me know...
