Ok, a lot of you probably already know this, but, if this helps 1 person, it is absolutely worth it. If you have an xbox360, and no media center you can still stream video to your tv, imho it works better than media center ever could. Here is what your going to do:
Before we start, make sure your PC, and 360 are on the same connection....They have to be able to 'see' each other.
1) Go to this website: TVersity - Home
Get the free version of the software, your not going to need anything else.
2) Turn OFF sharing on your computer. Unfortunately you can not have both sharing, and Tversity running. Trust me on this.
3) Install Tversity. Just follow the prompts.
4) Your going to want to get a good codec pack as Tversity streams direct instead of transcoding (unless you tell it to) So, in essence, what ever codec you use will also be streamed through the xbox. Even .mkv files. I prefer ffdshow, as well as the .mkv's in the cccp codec pack, or lazy mans .mkv. You can find the liinks here: Combined Community Codec Pack and here: Free-Codecs.com : Download Lazy Man's MKV 1.0.1 : This is a Matroska Playback Pack for minimalists who hate bloated Codec Packs
5) Build your library. In Tversity, top set of buttons to the right of the navigation buttons, second one in. 'Library' now, look down to the content area, and you will see another row of buttons, click +Add Item, and browse for your media.
6) Turn on your 360, on your dashboard go to My Xbox - System Settings - Network Settings - Test PC Connection. You should see it going through the test, you should end up with something that looks like this:
TVersity on - (your pc here)
If you do not see that, then click on PC Not Listed, and your 360 will search the network, and find TVersity (which is your pc)
7) When the 360 sees the PC, navigate back to Video Library, Select TVersity on - (your pc) - You will see a set of catagories on how to view your collection, just pick one, and you should see your movies now from your pc. Personally, I have my movies sorted into seperate files on the pc by genre, so when I select Folders, my files are listed, action, drama, etc, then I can select my movies that way, but whatever floats your boat! hope this helps someone out there who was tired of burning disks to watch movies!!
