Lately, a lot of videos have been encoded with a new Winamp codec which reduces the file size but the quality is not reduced. These codecs are not present in the latest Winamp and have to be installed and downloaded separately to enable and use and view such videos. Many people have been asking the question, so here's the answer.

Download These 3 Files than go to Installation Section

a. Go to

http://x264.nl

and download ffdshow from any mirror

b. Go to

http://x264.nl

and download h264install [named as x264 on the site] from any mirror

c. Get Codecs Files from here:

Rapidshare:
Codec:

http://rapidshare.de/files/21775415/...264_Codecs.rar

Megaupload:
Codec:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZT5TJ6YF

Installation Notes:-

note: First, close WinAmp and all non-essential programs.

1. Unzip nsv_x264.zip to a temp folder then copy nsvdec_x264.dll to the Winampplugins folder.

2. Install fddshow

3. Install h264install

4. Configure fddshow:

Click start menu->programs -> ffdshow -> VFW Codec configuration.

In there you will see 2 "Tabs" at the top. click the Decoder tab click and highlight "Codecs" on the top left and a list of installed Codecs will appear on your right.

Look for h264 in the list and right click on it and select from the menu that pops up "Set all stable formats to libavcodec". Then click "Apply" and "OK" to save and close the window. example picture is below.

---------------------

Install complete!

Try a stream that's H264 and see if it works. In the WinAmp video window you should see "H264 320x240". If you see "VP62 320x240" you are watching a stream that's still using the old codec.

If you buffer up to 99% and it sticks, you haven't installed/configured FFDshow properly. Go thru the configuration step above (The "set all to libavcodec" part) and try again. Reboot the PC again if necessary.

Enjoy Watching High Quality Video with less file size
