    Default Microsoft Notepad Replacement

Never use Microsoft Notepad again! Notepad can get the job done, but it is very limited in its features. Instead, I recommend using Notepad++.

Notepad++ is a free open-source text editor that is a great replacement for Microsoft Notepad. Here are some of the things that it can do that regular Notepad can't:

    • Undo multiple times (Notepad only lets you undo once)
    • Line count displayed on left hand side
    • Tabbed display
    • Keeps files in display after closing and reopening the program
    • Better find & replace functionality
    • Code highlighting for programmers
    • Much much more

Notepad++ is the ultimate replacement for Microsoft Notepad! Once you try it you will never go back.

I forgot all about this software. Re-downloaded, re-installed, and re-using like a boss!

I've used gedit and a few other text editors in windows, mostly for their grep function or their ability to handle high-ascii. Thanks for bringing this up - useful info!

I use Notepad. Notepad++ and Gedit are good too, but if I want to do any serious editing I'd be using vim.
The must-have text editor for Windows is GetDiz for its beautiful display of .nfos.

still use the DamnNFOViewer to view NFOs. Crude but effective.
