I know it is a post about true crypt alredy by MaBaSploomhere. But i have made a guide long time ago there i go deeper into true crypt and i will post it out here for you :)

For those who is from norway and using freakforum, yes it is my guide i have there.
And i am from Norway, so i dont use English each day. So it may be some typos here.

And for my safty, i am not responsible for what you do, just trying to teach you.

So lets get started.

What will i do in this guide?
In this guide i will show you how you can use true crypt, and make a encrypted container/file/harddrive. And the only method to get in to the container and get the files is with a password.

What are the benefits of this?
If you have somthing realy secret, or just want to protect your data you can make a encrypted disk/hdd, or a container. And all the data you have in there will be protected, and the only method to get in is with a password. You can also make multiple password, that directs to different location on the disk/container, and that i will explain later.
Even the police have problems get in to the files, and if you have a good enough password i will say it is almost impossible to get the files without the password.

What is container?
Some of you may now ask, what is container?

A container is a place you can save stuff, and look the doors so no other can accsess your stuff. And in this case, you making a virtuel/computer container with very high security. And the size of the lock? You deside by yourself.

The program i use:
I am using true crypt, and that is a very good program for cryptating your data. I have nothing negative about true crypt, and do never have problems using it. I will not go in details on how you install it, because that is basic and you will find out yourself.

The program should look like this when you have started it:


How to make a encryptet container:

What this guide does:
I will now show you how you create an encrypted container.

The guide:
The first thing you need to do is to push the buttom Create Volume and this will show up:


There you will check the Create an encrypted file container and hit next, then you get here:


Then make sure Standard TrueCrypt volume is selected, and hit next. Then you need to choose a place to save the container and after that you get this:


On that screen you need to choose a Encryption Algorithm, and that is basicly how it should hide your data and how well. I will not get in detail on each method, but for myself im using AES-Twofish-Serpent and will suggest you to use it. After you have selected that, hit next:


Then you need to select how large you want the file to be. If you are going to use you entire disk, i recommend you to not use this method with container, because it is a better way. Will explain that later. Also, when you set the size now, you also set the filesize. So if you choose 20 gb, it will always be 20 gb. Even if you not have anything in it, so it will take much space! When you have found out how large you want it to be, hit next:


Now its time to select an password, and i recomend to make a new password that noone can get from any other places. Many of you have many password, to diffrent sites and account so one tip is to join all password togehter. What can happen if you have an easy password? If you have an easy password, its much easyer for police or other people to Brute Force it.
PS, if your password is shorter then 20, truecrypt will display an warning message.
Once you have entered an extremly good password, hit next:


Now you get an question if you are going to save large files (4gb++), and what you answers here desides what filesystem its going to be. (NTFS large files, FAT32 is small files), so if you dont know what this means, just answer Yes, and hit next:


Now you are on the last step, in this step you are going to move your mouse randomly ower the window, and do it for a while. The longer you moving your mouse, the better. This is to make some randomly keys. When you feel you have done it for a while, hit format.
Now truecrypt starts to create your container. And when you are finish, this will pop up:

Now you get back to the first screen, and you can close that.




How to open you container:

What this guide does:
Now when you have created a encrypted container, i will show you how to open it and begin to use it.

Guide:
The first thing is to open truecrypt at is main screen, it should look like this:


Then your going to hit Select File..., and locate the file/container you created. I Created mine at D/:kontainer, after you have done that you can select a drive latter. It does realy not matter wich you use. After that is done, you should have somthing like this:


Now you hit Mount, and then a password field should pop up. Enter your password for the file, and hit OK. Then your container is mounted as a drive. So now you can locate my computer, find drives/hdd. And there you should see your new drive/container.

Now you can start transfering files, and the files inside will be encryptet and almost impossible to read without a password.

How to dismount/close the drive:
When you are done using your container, you can close by going to the truecrypt main window, select the drive and hit dismount.



PS: Sometimes if you re-install your OS, you will have problems to write in containers made before re-install. But i dont have a problem with that, so i dont know how to fix it. Just telling you :)
And if you are starting to use truecrypt on all your drives, you need a password with only english characters in it for your main drive. If you encrypt your main drive (normaly C:/) you will be asked for a password when your computer starts, and then only english characters is enabled on your keyboard.


How to make a hidden volume/two passwords:

What is a hidden volume?
A hidden volume is one already exsisting container/harddrive, with 2 password. One of the password shows one part of the files, and another password show all the files.
Imagen you have a container with 10 files. 5 of the files is some random work you have done, and its not so important. But the other 5 files, is some top secrets you have. And one day some dudes shows up and want your top secret files. They finds your container, and says you need to open it. What you then do, you type your password for the 5 random files you have there, and then the dudes sees you dont have any secret files. But what you realy have is a master-password, that shows all the then files. So when the dudes are gone, you type in you master password insted and you can continue working on the top secret files.

How to create one:
The first thing you wanna do is to open your truecrypt main window, and hit Create Volume, and gets this:


Then you select Create an encrypted file container, and hit next:

Then your going to select Hidden TrueCrypt volume, and guess what? Hit next:


I will explane the modes:

Normal mode is a mode there the wizard first helps you create a normal container (as in my guide), and at the end it will start create a hidden volume.

Direct mode is if you want to create a hidden volume in a alreddy exsisting container. And that is what we want rigth now. So select that and hit next:

Now it pop up a windows, there you are suposed to locate your container. So do that, and hit next:


Now you need to enter the password for the container you just located, do that and hit next. Maybe truecrypt asks for admin rigths on your computer, and then you allow that.

Maybe it pop up a windows there it says hidden volume, and there you hit next:


Now it asks for encryption algorithm, and here you select the same as last time, folowed by next:


Now your going to enter how much space the hidden volume should take. I created a file on 20 gb, and i will create my hidden volume at 10 of them. NEXT:


Now you enter the password for the hidden volume. And you cant use the same as the container itself has. Because its when you mount, and truecrypt asks for password you enter the hidden or not hidden password to select what you want. The next window here:


Normaly select the same option as the container has.

When you have done that, the random-mouse move window pop ups agen, so move your mouse randomly around in the window for a while. 20-30 sec should be good. Then hit Format.

If truecrypt asks for admin rigth, just give it that :) And now the formating starts.

At the end of that your hidden volume is created, and you can now try to enter the top-secret password insted of the normal password to the container when you mount it :)

I dont have time rigth now, but one day i can make an guide on how you format a HDD/disk.
