Yay my first tutorial, the TTTTT!!
- Personal Message -
I never thought it would be possible for someone like to me to get all the trackers that I wanted in a little more than a month! Well I have, and I would like to share some tips with my fellow T-I members on how get the trackers you want. These tips should easily apply to everyone because I did not have a seedbox, a super awesome home connection, or lots of free time. And I managed with just an 80 GB hard drive (no joke... I think I'm going to buy an external hard drive around Christmas, it's starting to drive me crazy!).
This could not have been possible without Torrent-Invites. THANK YOU :D
Torrent-Invites Tips
- Chopping Block -
One of the first things I did when I joined T-I was to read the various threads of people getting banned for their wrongdoings. Yes, I had just read all the rules for the site, but looking at the chopping block really helped me understand some rules I feel weren't emphasized enough.
- iGiver- one of the most important functions of iGiver is a record of the invites someone has received, not going-to-receive-I-think-hopefully. Why is this important? Many users are giving iGivers as soon as the inviter promises an invite will be sent. Unfortunately, sometimes these user never receive the invitation, and therefore the user goes and finds another giveaway, applies, and finds himself on the chopping block for asking for an invite that his iGiver record swears he already received. These cases seem to be very common and extremely annoying for the mods...
- Bonuses- the only purpose of a bonus is for the receiver to buffer his upload statistics. Redistributing bonus for iGivers and using bonuses to purchase invites for your own giveaway is not tolerated. Don't ask for bonuses unless your ratio is in danger.
- Other- if you're going to do something that makes you think twice, just don't do it.
- Asking for Help -
Don't be afraid to ask for help, even if you think your question is "nooby". People are more than willing to help out in any way they can! However, there are people who believe they are better than everyone else, just ignore them. For example, I've been laughed at and made fun of in the IRC after asking some questions I believed anyone could easily answer. I was tempted to respond to this people, but that would simply start an argument that would lead nowhere. Once I wait long enough, I get someone to kindly help me out.
- Posting in a Give Away -
- Proofs- PLEASE EDIT ACCORDING TO THE RULES. I've seen many inviters say that they are going to simply skip over users who are too lazy to edit their proofs correctly (if you're too lazy to edit your proofs, who says you're not too lazy to use a tracker?).
- Images- Embedded images please! I think(?) it is a rule, and I find it really annoying to see a post with just a bunch of blue links. Also, I've seen countless of the ugly red x image errors because someone uploaded to a website that deletes your images in 2 hours. I recommend uploading to Image Shack.Something that I've done to make the review process as painless as possible is combining all my proofs into one long image in MS Paint.
- PMs- Simply do not PM a inviter if he doesn't explicitly tell you to. It doesn't make you look determined, just annoying.
Tracker / Torrenting Tips
No, you don't need a super awesome speed or super awesome seedbox or super awesome hard drive (I'm talking 80GB!) to maintain a strong ratio. Oh, and I don't bother with free leeches. My method is dead and simple download and upload, but being smart about it. (If you do have a seedbox and lots of storage space, look for guides on how to automatically download torrents and to seed them like crazy, I'm pretty sure that works too).
- Downloading and Seeding -
- Choosing the right torrent- this is one of the most important steps in my opinion. My recommendations: big release video games- large files :[, but very popular and you will have leechers for a long time. Unfortunately, you have to check your trackers every couple of hours to catch these releases. TV shows- you can expect these to be posted 10-30 min after air time so you can download them early. Unfortunately, these tend to burn out quickly due to their small size and popularity. If you have a "list" of TV shows you regularly download and seed, you'll have a large buffer in no time!
- Ratioless- It is very important to have a ratioless tracker if you plan to cross-seed (look below) or if you want to download an older torrent without harming your ratio.
- Cross-seeding- If you don't know what this is, it's basically downloading a torrent from one tracker and then seeding the exact same torrent on multiple trackers. As a result, for some trackers you will only increase your upload and not even affect your download. Gives a big boost to your ratio.
Overview- find a good torrent, download from ratioless tracker, cross-seed on your other trackers.
Do not be just a ratio / seed whore. Downloading content is also very important to contributing to the community. For example, if I want to get an older game or movie, I download from my tracker that specializes in it (BCG / BHD).
- Your Torrent Client -
I find it very useful to take advantage of a client's ability to restrict the upload limit for individual torrents and adjust bandwidth allocation. More often then not, my upload is maxed out, with the highest speeds on "lower" trackers such as IPT or PTM. This is because these trackers report back a lower seed/peer ratio. However, I want to upload as much as possible to my other trackers, such as GFT or SCC. Therefore, I'll limit the upload speed to other trackers to maybe 50kB/s and watch my upload speed for the other trackers jump up!
Also, try to keep seeding overnight if possible. Remember that people torrent globally, so it's very possible that you are going to get more activity when its night time for you.
Hope this helps! Could not have been possible without the awesome community here at Torrent-Invites.
