Thread: Using the advanced search function

So you are new here and want to get into some private trackers but are feeling a little lost with all the options availible. What to do?
The best thing is, of course, ask the other members for what they think would fit your needs, but don't go creating a thread right away, you need to do a search first.

There are many users that registered there and many questions that were already answered, so it is resonable that your doubt have already been posted.
Manual search is out of question, but luckly we have a search function!


By clicking at "search" (1), you will open the menu. If you just use the search there, the system will look in all the site, but we can make it better.
Click in the "advanced search" (2) and you will be redirected to this page:

In the option number 1, you can choose if the search will be done just in the thread titles ("Search titles only") or in the entire posts.



If you want to search for the posts of a specific user, go to number 2, you can choose to look for the keywords in his posts or just in the threads started by him. If the search isn't for a specific user, just leave the field "User name" blank.

At the 3 option, you can define the sections where the search will be done. The options with a white background are the Sections (The Couch, The Help Desk, The Think Tank, Area 51 and The Grill), by chosing one of them, you will get results from all the subforums of that section.
If you choose a subforum such as BitTorrent News, the search will be done in all the child boards too, in this case the Submissions. The child boards are placed bellow their respective subforums and located more in the right.

The Find Threads with Prefix will look for threads where only the users with the specified rank can post.
The Find Threads with can limit your search for threads with a minimum or maximum amount of replies.
The Find Posts from can limit your search for posts older or newer a specific date.
If you use Search by Tag, the search will be done in the tags of each thread, that can be found at the botton of them.


There is also the option to search at the forum you are currently browsing:

First image: Click in 1 an then in 2.
Second image: Place what you want to search in the Keywords, click in 1 and choose Search tiltes only. If you want to seach for a specific user posts, go to 2 and place the username in the "User name" field, the search can be done in all his posts or in his threads only.
Go to 3 and choose the location, after that you can click in Search Now button.
