This tutorial will teach you a method on detecting if an image has been edited with photoshop.
It is especially useful for us because the constant threat of ratio-cheaters editing their ratio.

    First find our image.
Heres an example of a file that I've photoshopped just for reference.
If you'd like to follow along you can download this image to your desktop.

Ok so the only program you really need for this is a Hex Editor.
I'll be using HxD in this tutorial, as it's free and great.
Here's the link to download that. Just choose your language.
    Downloads | mh-nexus

    Download and install it.
Then open up the program and hit File > Open and navigate to the file you'd like to investigate.

If you look in the upper right of that previous image you'll see the words "Photoshop".
This file has been edited with photoshop.

    Heres a closer look:

You can alternatively search for the words Photoshop by going to Search > Find.

I thought this would be a nice addition to the tutorials especially since it's relevant to our website.

I expect to see more additions to the chopping block .
Of course remember though, it's always possible that the user used photoshop to paste the screenshot rather than MSPaint or similar.
However, it's unlikely because mspaint is so much quicker to open and use in this scenario.

Also it's better to ask for profile links before actually taking action in the chopping block or informing a Moderator.

    Hope you guys enjoyed!!

    Yours Truly,
    kon

indeed, that's the reason I didn't want this tutorial posted, futile attempt on my part I suppose. Anyway I don't want to see people posting chopping block threads just because it is edited with photoshop. Make sure you have proof to support the accusations you are making. [just as konvileuted has stated]

to see the photoshop mark you just have to open it in any viewer that can read exif data. no need to do it at hex level
further this kind of data can be stripped easily so it's not very reliable.

and ethicks is right the fact that a pic was saved with photoshop doesn't proove anything.
i think this will bring more useless harm than anything.

Yeah I know thats why you should always ask for profile links first.
This is just a way to check your suspicion if you think someones ratio looks fixed.
You should still always ask for profile links before turning it into a big deal.
I can't stress that point enough.

The reason i'm showing this at a hex level is because Exif readers can't read every format.
I always use PNG which cant be read.

Maybe so but in the 2 minutes spent downloading and installing xnview you could also download and install a hex editor.
Notice how this goes nowhere :001_tongue:

Couldn't you just edit out "Photoshop" using a hex or EXIF editor, anyway?

Yeah I just use mspaint to edit mine, you don't need to make such 'advanced' edits that you require photoshop, its just simple black boxes and cropping lol
I did learn that photoshop adds its tag in exif data after reading this thread, I never knew it did that. Im sure there is an option in photoshop to turn this tagging off though

no, that's the problem. same goes for other filetypes as well btw.
anyway as i said several times these 'tags' can be stripped off with ease.
