Seedboxes.... Any help? - Torrent Invites! Get your free private torrent tracker invites !

OK, so I have heard a lot about these things called 'seedboxes'.

So, I want to know what they are & what they do. Are they a external server that streams torrents for me or what?

I have a few questions -

1) How do I control a seedbox from my PC?
2) Can I do whatever I want through them, or must it be torrent downloading?
3) Can I get one for free if I have a few advertisments on my site?
4) Is there a HDD limit on seedboxes?
5) How do I transfer data between my PC & the seedbox?
6) Is it safer than torrenting on my main PC?
7) What software needs to be installed on my PC to be able to use a seedbox?
8) Can I install whatever OS I want on the seedbox?

Any help would be great!

You can, however i assume you are running Windows? If so you must use the utorrent web ui, or if you wish to switch to linux you can use torrentflux which i believe is better.

2) Can I do whatever I want through them, or must it be torrent downloading?
Within torrentflux you can download the following file types .torrent, .wget, .nzb

3) Can I get one for free if I have a few advertisments on my site?
I very highly doubt it, i have been proven wrong before so you can try it.

4) Is there a HDD limit on seedboxes?
That question is a bit vague, basically if you purchase a seedbox the company will tell you all the details for eg it will include a 30gb hard drive.

5) How do I transfer data between my PC & the seedbox?
You can run transfers through http, or ftp which is a lot faster and more secure.

6) Is it safer than torrenting on my main PC?
If you are going to setup a seedbox at home, i can't see any reason why one will be the safer than the other. However if you purchase one, your ip will not be displayed to people like media defender trying to track torrenters.

7) What software needs to be installed on my PC to be able to use a seedbox?
As i mentioned before you can use utorrent web ui that can be installed on windows, or torrentflux that requires a distro of linux

8) Can I install whatever OS I want on the seedbox?
Depends on what software you are using for the seedbox.

I will use Red Hat Server on the seedbox if I can.

I will investigate TorrentFlux.

I will use FTP.

Any security software I should know about when doing this?

Not sure whether torrentflux is able to be installed on red hat.

You should probably install a fire and anti virus on the server;

There are MANY seedbox services out there that will provide you an box/account with everything ready to go (at a very reasonable price with no long term commitment). I would strongly suggest that route for anyone getting into seedboxes...

I will just add that you also can control your seedbox with VNC.

You could probably get one for free, but i think you would prefer a paid one. There is something that states that you get what you pay for..

And if your going to buy yourself a seedbox i can vouch for this host: seedhost.eu

Big problem.... I don't even have a PayPal account... & I am a teenager, so I doubt I would be able to get one either.

I would think that a free seedbox would still be better than 10 year old laptop, which can only torrent when it is actually switched on.

I would start with a pre-setup seedbox with torrentflux or Utorrent and webui. If you like it you can move on to more expensive dedicated server. If you need help setting one up let me know. ;)
