Default How to Blazing fast FTP

This article can be found at the link below written by Sharky at filesharefreak. All I did was compile it onto one page and convert to an image...I have seen a lot of posts about slow FTP speeds and segmented downloading is the absolute fastest way I have found. Enjoy!

Thanks, did`t know that. I use CuteFTP and will try this out.
Hope it be faster than HTTP speed with IDM. xD

I've never used HTTP to connect to my server so I honestly can't say. I haven't found anything faster then the CuteFTP way but I am always looking. I thought if it were possible to somehow set up a private newsreader on my server I could get usenet speeds but I haven't accomplished this yet.

An interesting thing I have noticed is the difference between multipart downloading (filezilla) and segmented downloading (CuteFTP). Multipart seems to just spread my internet connection over more downloads and only increase speed by a little bit. Whereas with segmented, it seems to treat each of the split parts as an individual download so each segment is getting max speed.

This seems like a pretty good tutorial. For those who do try it out, please let us know if you do get marked increases in your FTP speeds. :)

    Very nice!!

    Was pulling around 1 MB/s down from box...now about 5 MB/s out of possible 6 MB/s.

it works I assure you! though I have only a 1 mb/s line so it ends up clogging up connection when left on for the huge files like blueray movies.

but even downloading in normal binary transfer are great with CuteFTP... best program so far for me.

This did not work for me entirely. See below.

    [Conditions]
GLobal max concurrent transfer = 50
Per site max concorrent transfers = 20
    MAX multi-part threads = 8
    All other settings = default
    FTP Server = ProfFTPD 1.3.1
    CuteFTP Version 8.3.4 0007

    [Steps to reproduce]
    1. Connect to server using FTP
    2. Right click on the file/folder you want to download
    3. Select Download Advanced->Multi-part Download->MAX(8 parts)
    4. CuteFTP will create and download 8 temporary files. With each file having 2GB or more, depending on the total file size of remote file.

    [Output]
All .tmp files but one will stall at 99%. It may look like CuteFTP is still downloading but if you check the FTP server process, all connections are either IDLE or has been disconnected.

    [Additional notes]
This has been tested multiple times on different files greater than 10GB.
CuteFTP is unable to merge all temporary files together, thus leaving the downloaded files useless.
Removing the downloads from the queue then putting it back yields the same result.

I noticed this happening as well scoobie...I think there is a time limit set somewhere and your downloads just stop. When this happens try right clicking the file that isnt finished and select the "transfer select" option. That seemed to resume and finish the download for me but not to sure why it happens.
