Thanks for the reply. Another quickie, rtorrent has a gui included right? Will it be easier to install compared to utorrent?
Your welcome d4nny. No, rtorrent doesnt have a GUI included like uTorrent, but there are 3rd party rtorrent webui's out there. For example, the best webui for rtorrent is called rutorrent and it looks just like utorrent's webui. Its not included with rtorrent though and was made by another party, but its the most used rtorrent webui. U would have to install it seperate from rtorrent and it can be harder to install & get running. I could always help u though.

    Hi Mike

OK i have not set vnc tunneling because of the cascading windows effect i get on tightvnc viewer (connection loopback was disabled by default setting to prevent this problem, and i get the cascading windows problem after enabling it under options).

So i thought utorrent webui should be working well now since i can access the webui. BUT.............
when i try to add any torrents it gives an error "unable to load torrent: invalid torrent file"... I had tried torrent files from different sources and it all gives the same response...

oh yea i tweaked some options in utorrent from another guide:
    - Choose any port above 45,000
    - Enable Encryption
    - Disable DHT, Local Peer Discovery, Peer Exchange
    - No randomize ports, disable UPnP port mapping & NAT-PMP port mapping
    - Enable WebUI Interface, insert WebUI's un & pw
    - In Advanced Options, set gui.delete_to_trash to FALSE
    - Un-check Minimize to tray & Close to tray

    Please help...

What version of uTorrent are u running? There was a bug with the uTorrent webui with versions of utorrent 2.* and im not sure if it still exists but this may be your issue. The bug was with the 'add torrent' in the webui and im not sure if this was fixed or not. Anyway, have u tried adding a torrent through FTP to the utorrent auto-load folder? Try that and see what happens and report back.

Hey, this is a great tutorial and I've gotten good use out of it. Just having a few problems. I can create the users fine, but I can't login with them through SSH, no matter what it says "access denied". I'm wondering if it's something to do with the way they configured my VPS.

Can u open your ssh config file for me and post it on pastebin or something similar so i can take a look at it. To open it run this command :

    nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config

Also, open your /etc/passwd file for me and paste your new created users lines here so i can look at them also. Please only paste the end of the lines though and not the whole line.

    Mike buddy

    having minor problems with ftp....
I can't access the ftp through browser
"Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at my.ip"

so i thought i'll have to start vsftpd manually so i login through putty:

    sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd start
    [sudo] password :
    * Starting FTP server: vsftpd
start-stop-daemon: Unable to open pidfile `/var/run/vsftpd/vsftpd.pid' for writing: Permission denied (Permission denied)
    [ OK ]

    sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd restart
    * Stopping FTP server: vsftpd No /usr/sbin/vsftpd found running; none killed.
    [ OK ]
    * Starting FTP server: vsftpd [ OK ]

And, how to create a user and specify the starting directory in ftp?

When u create a user on your server they are automatically added to the FTP user login list. So if u followed my tutorials earlier and created a normal user with sudo, then that user already has FTP access and so on with any other users u created.

To create a user on your server run these commands :

    useradd -m user-name
    passwd user-name

If u want to add another user on your server with a specific '/home' dir then u would run this command :

    adduser --home /home/user-name user-name

FInally, u can specify the starting dir for any user in your FTP client or u can lock the user in a specific '/home' dir with un-commenting a line in the vsftpd.conf file. If u need help with any of this let me know and ill help u out. Thanks

Holy shit, Mike.. it's like a fuckin' T-I support center in here! :p

Anyways, just thought I'd pop inn and say hi and thanks for the nice tutorial. Helped out a bunch when I was setting up my new box.. long time away from Linux + awful memory.. well, let's just say it would've taken a lot longer if it wasn't for this awesome tutorial!

Cheers man. Feel free to drop me a line on PM whenever.. it's been way too long! ;)
