    Default SeedKing.org

I was gifted this box by SeedKing for 1 week, in order to create a review. PM me if you want YOUR servers reviewed!

    Name: SeedKing.org

    Speed: 120 mbps
    Support: Very good.
SeedKing himself is almost always available in IRC.
GUI: rTorrent + option for the "Avalanche" beta
    Speed of GUI: Excellent
    Package: Fast Five
    Price: $50 (CND)
    Overall rating: 9/10

Note: If not for a security issue I found whilst testing the box, this would have received 10/10. The issue was an isolated incident and was dealt with unbelievably quickly by the SeedKing support, they are a very adept team and certainly know what they are doing

    Extended Review:

This server was located in Chicago, and was put through its paces with some high speed torrents, and performance tests. During testing, I found there were 4 AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1055T chips present on the system, which appeared more than ample.

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/simfs 500G 1.4G 499G 1% /

Download of ubuntu-11.04-alternate-amd64.iso.torrent at 1900 PM BST on a Friday

Speeds peaked out at 11 MB/s on this download, but at ~700 MB, it was not peaking out at any clear top speed.

Repeated with Fedora-16-Alpha-x86_64-DVD.torrent which is 3.4 GB.

Following completion of the download, the traffic graph was re-checked.

The speeds averaged around 19 MB/s, which comes out to 152 Mb/s, which is nicely above the quoted 120 Mb/s guaranteed bandwidth available.

Worth an extra mention is the ability to select from a variety of rTorrent web interfaces, via the control panel. You can be going within about 10 seconds of logging in (I was).

Onto some wget testing. Here, some speed test files were downloaded from other servers across the world. In order to ensure it was a realistic test, the output was saved to the seedbox hard drive. This ensures you are not measuring merely network throughput, but also disk drive access speeds.

I will be using the Linode speed test files from Linode - Linode Facilities Speedtest, and try each with the server.

    Ping Times

Ping times to a VPS in the Netherlands (Evoswitch) datacenter was recorded and averaged at 103 ms. As the server is located in the United States, this was retested with Atlanta, and a ping time of 33 ms was averaged.

    Review

I’ve been reviewing this seedking box for almost 1 week now and would like to share my veiws with all you out there trying to find a good seedbox. Its a pretty fair choice to choose and the managing interface rt,rut, avalanche works well.

The higher speeds I saw while looking wereabout 10mb down and 13-16mb up at the same time, but I never tried to max out the connection, so I can’t say if they are actually the highest possible. 9 MB peaks (up or down independently) already occured while downloading many torrents at once. These speeds seem acceptable to me, given the low price and large space. I tried installing the VNC client to get a speed-test for the review but wasn't able due to technical difficulties.

I dealt twice with their support, and found it rather speedy and friendly.

Something to take into account is their terms
,The site is still under construction please bear with us. We hope to have it all finished up very soon! and the deletion of content from seedbox has a glitch as it will remove the torrent but not the actual directory from the seedbox(for which i used ftp client),but now the torrent removing bug has been fixed.

The site, ordering, and seedbox automation and creation system is fully functional and you can order the "Fast Five".

    Overall Seedbox Rating: 7.5/10

IMPORTANT: THERE 2nd PACKAGE "THE LIBERIAN" WILL BE COMING SHORTLY....!!!!

All in all, my experience has been very satisfactory, seedking have a very good future .

SeedKing gave me this box for 1 week to review and I must say that I was really impressed. The box did go down for a few hours but it was quickly sorted, a little about that later.

I had taken a few screenshots but there are plenty of those above so I will leave them out.

So, around 10 minutes after receiving my initial email, I was greeted with an email saying my VPS was ready. Although when I tried to visit the URL's for rtorrent and access the box via SSH I couldn't connect, I sent an email to SeedKing and within 10 minutes I had another email and my VPS was up and running. (A little more about that great customer service later)

Although this box is a VPS it comes pre-installed with rtorrent and the choice of 3 webUI's these are: ruTorrent, Rtorrent UI and Avalanche. Personally I have always used ruTorrent until recently so I went with that.

In my opinion this is a great feature of seedking.org because VPS deals always seem to be better than the usual seedboxes but for someone with little knowledge of linux, installing a torrent client and generaly managing a VPS can be very daunting and does put a lot of people off. This gives you the ease of having everything pre-installed but the choice to install anything else too!

I must say that the WebUI was extremely responsive, I really don't know why but it was loads faster than any other VPS/Seedbox I have used. The ruTorrent interface can usually be slow and laggy but with this box it didn't bother me at all, this was the first thing I noticed and was very impressed.
The only downside I found was I made a bookmark for /rutorrent but when you visit that URL you get the main seedking page and need to select ruTorrent from the dropdown list every time you want to go to the WebUI. Whilst its a small problem I did find it rather annoying.

From the start I wasnt very impressed with the speeds but it later turned out to be the torrents I had been adding. After I selected some hot torrents from SCC freeleech, the speeds were more often that not above the advertised 120Mbit. I did see spikes up to 25MB/s which is pretty impressive! I found the box really good and the torrents seemed to stay active for a decent amount of time which is a problem I have had with other VPS' - the speeds would die quickly. This was not the case here and with a few torrents running speeds stayed above 1MB/s for a good few hours which I was also impressed with.

On the second day, I tired to login to ruTorrent to find the box was unresponsive via SSH and the UI. I sent a message to seedking on IRC who informed me that his iPhone alert had stopped working for some reason and that there was an internal error which was bugging out and effectively DDOS'ing the servers from inside!

The part I found impressive was that he has an iPhone alert hooked up to the servers so that if anything did go wrong, he would know straight away!
This brings me on to the customer support which I must say was truly impressive. All my messages were answered instantly and given a full explanation of what happened and how the error was fixed.

Lastly I'd like to mention that I never used any of the other features besides the File Manager which worked well although I have always preffered using SSH for file management, but for those not confident with SSH this would be perfect.

I'd highly recommend this box to those who are not so confident with SSH and Linux whilst it is suitable for those who are. In my opinion it is slightly better for those who aren't as it has everything you need out of the box. The lack of customisation may put those more advanced users off.

SeedKing is such a nice, genuine guy and I would vouch for him and his service to anyone. I was very impressed with the box and the service I received, had it not been for the slight problem getting the box set up, the few hours downtime and the security issue which pulser touched on, I would have given this VPS a 10/10 review.

    Overall 9/10

    Name: SeedKing - Fast Five
Speed: 120 Mbit (Guaranteed) and currently burstable
    Package: 500GB storage, 2GB RAM (3GB burst)
GUI: ruTorrent, rtorrent GUI, avalanche, custom file manager
    GUI Speed: Extremely fast
    Price : $ 50 /Month
    Support: A new standard
    Server location: Chicago, USA

I got offered this box in IRC for testing and reviewing and I'm very impressed, by their services, but some things do need improvement, in my opinion.

Because SeedKing himself offered me the box for testing he was kind of prepared for my offer, but the fact that I got my login details roughly 3 minutes after I have ordered it is still extremely impressive.
After logging in the first time I found rtorrent to be not running. Luckily, I thought, their GUI has a start/stop/force reload and restart function for rtorrent, but I still wasn't able to get it running. After deleting the .lock file via SSH I could finally start testing the box. Luck wasn't on my side and rtorrent crashed multiple times.
I opened a ticket and the support tried reinstalling rtorrent, which worked for a couple of hours, but after that it still crashed multiple times. The main problem was that I couldn't even restart it via their GUI. Finally I wasn't even able to restart rtorrent via SSH and I decided to reinstall the OS within the VPS control panel. I tested the box after I reinstalled the OS, which was no hassle because of the VPS control panel, and since that I didn't have any problems at all.

    Speed: 10/10

The max speed I have seen was 33MB/s down and 20MB/s up(and this multiple times), but the upspeeds can easily be higher, because I didn't use autodl. This would translate into max 264MBits which is more than double of the advertised speed.
I tested the box with a couple of Linux torrents and some torrents from the SCC archive.
    I don't include all screenshots I made.

Support: 10/10 (I would give more if possible)

I got the box after a few minutes of ordering - this deserves more than 10 points.
I opened a support ticket, because my rtorrent kept crashing and I always got a reply within the hour. SeedKind himself wasn't able to handle my problem (time problems) and gave it to another support staff, who handled my problem within 24 hours. Afterwards SeedKing apologized for the slow response and for taking such a long time to solve me problem - 24hours. I think this shows how important support is at SeedKing. SeedKing is most of the time online on IRC and asked me multiple times if everything was fine with the service. If the support is extremely slow it takes a few hours, but usually everything gets handled in less than an hour and that's more than excellent. I'm extremely impressed by their support.
I have never seen such a friendly and fast support and I wish I could give them more than 10 points.

    GUI: 10/10

The tested seedbox is on the one hand a preconfigured seedbox, with everything you could ask for, but on the other hand also a VPS (Virtual Private Server) with full root access and SSH.
I really like that they have not only added rutorrent, but also rtorrent GUI and Avalanche GUIs to choose from. I have mainly tested the rutorrent interface, because that's what I was familiar with and so are most other users.
Rutorrent can be very laggy, slow and usually times out a lot, but somehow SeedKing has mentioned that my rutorrent never timed out or something like that in the time I tested the seed box.
Usually rutorrent times out when you delete torrents, especially larger ones and you have to refresh the page multiple times …, but this never happened with this seed box.
The webUI also loads pretty quickly and I also like that you can restart/start/stop rtorrent within the provided UI.
The only negative point I have found about their user interfaces is that in the VPS control management you can only choose between reinstalling the VPS with CentOS5 or with Ununtu 11.04, but with rtorrent and GUI. I wish they would add something like plain Ubuntu 11.04 or other OSes, but that's just me. It think it's very good that they have already installed a couple of things on your seed box, which is especially nice for the less experienced users, but some may prefer to be able to have a plain VPS and install the stuff by themselves.
In the SeedKing clientarea they have included nice graphs about the server you are on which is a very nice feature.

    Conclusion: 9/10

I would have given this provider the full points, but I can't because I did have some problems with rtorrent at the beginning.
They have the best support, an shockingly amazing rutorrent interface and amazing speeds.
    I can highly recommend them.

EDIT: I'm not affilited with them nor was I payed to do this review, but at the time of this review their services were excellent.

Hmmm, looks like it's time to type up a review :)

First of all, SeedKing thank you very much for giving me the chance to test out your new speedbox :)

OK, I received the login details for this seedbox on 23rd Sept. 2011 so I've had almost 3 days to test it out. Also, the process of acquiring the details was painless and very quick, I got my login details in 5 minutes (even though the boxes may have been pre-setup, it's still very quick) at most, so kudos to SeedKing for that :)

    Seedbox details:

    Name: SeedKing.org
    Package: Speedbox
    Storage: 95GB
RAM: 3 GB dedicated 4GB Burstable
Speed: 200 Mbit Per Box (1gbps connectivity)
Access: SSH (root), VSFTP, HTTPS, Custom WebGUI
GUI: ruTorrent, rtorrent GUI, avalanche, custom file manager
    GUI Speed: VERY fast
    Price: 25 CAD/wk
    Support: VERY Good! :)
    Server location: Chicago, USA

    Now for the review:

    GUI:
As mentioned in the previous reviews, you have the option to choose rtorrent, rutorrent or avalanche as your interface. And the speed of the interface is VERY good, with next to NO lag.

    Speeds:
The speeds were good and I achieved download peaks of 35.5 MB/s and upload peaks of 12.2 MB/s. The download speed was MUCH higher than the promised 200mbit.

    DL peak:

    UL peak:

    Support:
SeedKing's support truly impressed me. SeedKing himself was almost always in the IRC and I could PM him and get a swift reply. I ran into a problem and opened a support ticket (it was night-time here) and I thought by the time I wake up they'll have replied by then. When I woke up and saw the time on which my support ticket was answered, it was just a few minutes after I had opened the ticket, now THAT is support :)

    Technical Difficulties:
OK, so after I got my login details, I logged in to the seedbox, looked at the various interfaces, added a few torrents, checked out the speeds, then I closed my browser and checked in like 4-6 hours later, only to find a nasty surprise waiting for me. The Rutorrent interface gave the common error, that said to check if rutorrent was really running, so I tried restarting Rutorrent from the server tools, but that wouldn't fix the problem. I then contacted SeedKing on the IRC and he told me to restart the seedbox from the control panel whose login info I'd been supplied with. I restarted the seedbox but the problem persisted. I told SeedKing about it, and he told me to do a reinstall of the OS from the solusVM control panel, so I did that. The next day, I got an e-mail saying that the kernel or something was messed up and that they'd reinstall everything on the seedbox and that it'd take around 8 hours. I checked back after 8 hours and found a new e-mail containing the login instructions for my NEW seedbox that would be valid for another 48 hours (thanks SeedKIng :D). I thought that'd be the end of my troubles, but apparently fate had other plans for me. I logged in to the seedbox and added a few torrents, logged out, and checked back after 7-8 hours only to find that all the torrents had stopped by themselves with the status "Pausing" and wouldn't do ANYTHING. So I asked SeedKing again, he told me to again restart Rutorrent and I did, but it didn't fix the problem, so he told me to do a re-install from solusVM. I did that and the box worked fine for like an hour, and the problem returned AGAIN. I told SeedKing about it and he took a look at it and it started working again but only for a few hours. When the problem struck again, SeedKing told me to do another re-install from solusVM. I did that and the box started working again, but only for a short time. The box again showed me the same error that'd make all my torrents stop and wouldn't DL any new ones I'd add, and this time I noticed that rutorrent was giving the error "Failed to allocate space for file chunks" or something like that I don't really remember. Well, that was prolly the final straw, I decided my box was jinxed and my luck sucked :P and I probably got a box with some irregularities in the HDD's. So I just removed all my torrents from it (about 10 hours ago I think) and let it be. This was probably the most trouble I've had with a seedbox, maybe because I'm a n00b in this stuff(I don't know crap about linux) or maybe it was something wrong with the box but it really annoyed the hell out of me and these issues bring the overall rating down by 3 points :( (Sorry, but twas just too much)

    Conclusion:
The speeds on the box were good and usually much MORE than the 200 mbit that's promised (at least the DL was) although still not high enough to be called the fastest seedbox in the world (the UL was about as much as was promised). I loved the customized interface though. So, I'd say that this box is good but not worth 25 dollars/week. You can find better alternatives for 25 dollars.

    Speeds: 9/10

Support: 10/10 (but if you count support in terms of the effectiveness of the resolution of the specific problems that I faced [which I think are uncommon], then it'd be 5/10)

    GUI: 10/10

    Overall: 7/10

I'm sorry if you guys find anything wrong with the review. I've tried to be as impartial as I can with this review and to present everything as accurately as possible. Also sorry for the endless rant about the technical difficulties, but I thought I should describe the things that brought the rating down, in detail.

A LONG overdue review is in order (a week overdue I think :)). OK, so after I experienced the issues with the box that SeedKing gave me, he was kind enough (thank you SeedKing) to give me another box for another 48 hours to review because they had fixed the template (a buggy template was causing the problems I recounted in my previous review).

    Seedbox details:

    Name: SeedKing.org
    Package: Speedbox
    Storage: 95GB
RAM: 3 GB dedicated 4GB Burstable
Speed: 200 Mbit Per Box (1gbps connectivity)
Access: SSH (root), VSFTP, HTTPS, Custom WebGUI
GUI: ruTorrent, rtorrent GUI, avalanche, custom file manager
    GUI Speed: VERY fast
    Price: 25 CAD/wk
    Support: VERY Good! :)
    Server location: Chicago, USA

    Here's the re-review :)

    GUI:
As I've mentioned in my previous review, the interface was excellent, very easy on the eyes and VERY responsive :)

    Speeds:
The speeds were EVEN BETTER than last time. Although the box only promises 200mbit speeds, I frequently observed speeds much higher than that figure :). The download speeds usually peaked out around 42MBps and the upload speeds hovered around 20 MBps (peaked around 23MBps). So, as far as the speed is concerned, you get MUCH more than what you're promised :)

    Download peak:

    Upload peak:

    Stable Upload:
    Support:

As I've said in my previous review, the support was VERY VERY good. I had a query for SeedKing and I PM'd him on the IRC and got a response in just 4-6 minutes :) Thanks SeedKing, keep up the EXCELLENT support :)

    Technical Difficulties:

This time round, the seedbox performed without a SINGLE problem. I didn't even have to restart rutorrent ONCE, everything went smoothly (maybe because SeedKing fixed the problems with their template) and it seems that the previous seedbox that gave me so many problems was just a one-time thing. SeedKing really deserves a pat on the back for fixing all the problems I faced within 1-2 days :) Excellent work SeedKing.

    Conclusion:

All in all, this seedbox is a VERY good deal and it gives you more than what is promised :) It performed very well, I didn't face ANY technical difficulties, the GUI was very responsive, and I got speeds well in excess of 200mbit :)

    Speeds: 10/10

Support: 10/10 (I'd give more if it was possible :))

    GUI: 10/10

    Overall: 10/10

The 10/10 score might seem a bold statement but the box earned it (I couldn't find anything to that would reduce the score).
