Default Downloading from Usenet to Seedbox

How do you go about downloading directly from usenet to a seedbox? I assume that there is some type of Linux application that would do this, but I don't know where to start looking. Any advice is much appreciated. :)

All the recommendations I've read point to sabnzbd. SABnzbd.org : Home of SABnzbd+, the Full-Auto Newsreader

But I don't have a USEnet account, so I've never tried it out. Has a web UI and seems to be well documented and actively developed.

It's possible to download your usenet files if you have an access usenet like astraweb with Xirvik seedbox

Xirvik seedbox included the usenet+bittorrent protocol

    it work 100% i download at 20 mb/s

Interesting thread! I'm with Astraweb, I might have to make some room on my seedbox to try this out.

Also do you use SABnzb or a different newsreader ?

Just thinking out of the box...

    a) UseNet usually is slower to have releases online than most scene-trackers
    b) UseNet usually has a different encoding than scene-trackers
    c) UseNet usually has less concurrent connections than Bittorrent
    d) UseNet account usually ups your monthly costs
    e) UseNet has a much smaller retention than a decent tracker

So why would you want to have UseNet AND a seedbox at the same time? Chances of getting files faster than the average torrent-site as slim to none and even if you have the files first, you still need to create it into a torrent file to seed properly. But since encoding is usually different, you have a pretty decent chance to have a different SFV and/or piece-size than the scene-release which will eventually be noticed by tracker-staff and nicely ask you not to do so anymore.

My opinion would be: get a seedbox, build your ratios on your current trackers and work your way up to trackers with very low pre-times if you want things quickly. Or even dig even deeper and get access to "scene ftp" where files are released before any other site/usenet has them.

But the simplest solution I could think of at this moment: get 2 machines... 1 seedbox (large HDD and so on) and 1 very small Windows VPS. Install your UseNet-client on the Windows VPS and use Expandrive to not save it locally but on the HDD of your seedbox.

    Hi DutchRuff

I upload from Usenet to a private scene tracker.
    b) UseNet usually has a different encoding than scene-trackers.
Not if it's a scene release. The content is exactly the same.
    c) UseNet usually has less concurrent connections than Bittorrent.
I can download 24 streams at once maxing out my bandwidth.
    d) UseNet account usually ups your monthly costs.
    Yes it does, By £9.00
    e) UseNet has a much smaller retention than a decent tracker.
My Usenet server has 1200 days retention.

Because i don't want to download, I very rarely download by p2p. Usenet uses SSL so is a bit more secure so i download from there. No seeding back. Also...........
Because my upload speed is rubbish. I can download the (in my case mostly TV Episodes) and have a torrent made and uploaded to the site in about 10 minutes after it appears on Usenet (where it used to appear first before the advent of p2p), but then i suddenly have 20 leechers and a useless upload of less than 1 Mbps.

Or even dig even deeper and get access to "scene ftp" where files are released before any other site/usenet has them.
I would mate if i knew where to dig.

I'd still like to know which package of Xirvik seedbox includeds the usenet+bittorrent protocol

My advice would be to email xirvik directly, their support is pretty good. Even though I have only ever seen releases uploaded to usenet, about the same time as torrents. You probably want scene access, as usenet will never be faster than good uploaders at decent sites. From my experience usenet releases come online at the same time as torrents.

thanku mate, i was searching for this. as most people in the torrenting world lack this important piece of information that usenet is primitive but is extremely resourceful, giving u access to petabytes.

    Much appreciated effort.
