I have used three different 100Mbs seedboxes and am currently looking into a 1Gb seedbox. Is there a minimum amount of ram that I should be looking for? I am planning on a 250-500Gb hard drive.

I'd guesstimate about 1.5-2GB of ram. But as always with computers, the more the merrier.

Depends totally what torrent client, what kind of usage you have.

I am currently using a 1 Gbps SB with 2 GB RAM and everything runs flawlessly but i assume less RAM's will be problematic during torrent making:)
I would be more inclined to get an extra drive. 1gbit on a single small drive might struggle a little. If you could get 2 and put them in raid0 you would be better. Also for ram I would say 2gb min. But i'm sure you could get away with 1gb. Depending on the client like nucode said.
Rtorrent, would be ideal with such low ram as it dont use it as much as other clients.
Thank you for the replies guys. I am looking at a box with 8Gb ram shared by four max. That should be fine.

12GB of Ram, 4 clients on Diamond Package.
Where does it state there ram and how many users per box???
Or is that just some shameless promotion of ur site :P
EDIT
Infact there is no real details about the server used at all. For all anyone knows, is its a dual core with 2gb ram and X amount of users. I would be inclined to ask that question before making a purchase from them.
Not knocking them at all.. Just curious with the above statment

If you want to be on the safe side, look into SAS drives. Faster write speeds especially when you get into the 1gb/s range.

There really is no need to go SAS unless ur looking into sharing a server with other users. 2 Decent SATA2 drives in raid0 is enough for 4+ users to easily cope.
If u wanted to really push the boat out.. SSD would be the way forward. But with limited space on them.. You would still need some SATA or SAS drives, then do all the downloading to the SSD and have the data moved to the other drives for seeding. But again, these things are only needed to be done for seedbox hosts, as they have more people on the servers.
