Default Does anyone use a NAS as a seedbox?

So i don't like leaving my computer on 24/7 to seed all the time. I was thinking about getting a NAS as i need the storage anyway and use that to seed. Any recommendations?

I hear synology is a good brand for NAS boxes. Looks like they support something like rtorrent.

I was also thinking about building my own seedbox if that would save money and get me the same features but might be more of a pain to setup than its worth.

Then of course i can just pay a monthly fee to seed like the majority of everyone in this forum.

Does anyone have any Pros vs Cons when it comes to seeding yourself with a NAS box or paying a monthly fee to seed?

    Thanks

I have owned a personal NAS in the past. Was not happy with the way the software locked me down to only a few options. The Synology doesn't look to bad. I did not read to deep into what it uses, but my concern would be what BT client does it use and can it be updated. Some sites only allow specific clients and versions.

What I ended up doing was just building a Windows Server box with the storage I needed. This is fairly costly for the avg. person. I think I roughly spent $1,500 on just 2TB drives. And that is with cutting corners on specs. If you truely want to stay with a NAS type system I would say lean to a home or micro server. Saw a microserver on Newegg for about $325. Has four drive bays. These will allow you to install your own operating system vs having one preloaded that you can not replace or customize.

As for creating your own inhouse seedbox I would say it depend on your connection speeds. For the trackers im part of my 5Mb upload was not enough. So I went with a seedbox reseller. I pay about $75/month for a 100Mb and 1.5 TB dedicated seedbox.

Also something to read to see if you want to try setting up your own seedbox. The guide does assume you already have Ubuntu installed and have console access.

Ubuntu Seedbox with rtorrent | rutorrent | pureftpd | multi-user (optional)
