    Default Seedbox RAM

Well think I might of finally found a potential seedbox provider to go with. My only thing left to decide on is how much RAM I need to go with it comes with an option to upgrade it.

Was just wondering what other users here are running on their seedbox RAM wise and if they noticed any negativity or positive performance gains from it.

Right now I'm looking at either 512mb or 2gb with a pricey $10/month difference between the two.

well, it really depends on what kind.

    100mbit or gbit connection?
is this ram dedicated to YOU or shared with anyone(if so how many)

and will this be strictly for torrenting?

512MB DEDICATED ram for a 100mbit connection is enough

and 2gb is enough (generally) for a gbit connection

most probably u r getting a dedicated server so far as u have the option of upgrading ur RAM
ofcourse all the specs affect ur server performance but if u want to talk about the RAM solely i guess 512 mb will make u hate ur server & most of the times u won't b getting everything out of ur server . many things depend on the RAM as size of ur active torrents collectively , hash checking & others.....so i guess if it's a 10 $ difference it worth the upgrade
if u r having a Gbit server then i guess u should go for atleast 4 GB RAM to get out the most of it
with all respect to bluboy this is just my opinion from seedbox usage not as a proffessional :)

at the end thanx for MIKED who taught me many things about seedboxes

yea, i mean definatley go with the 10 dollar upgrade :D

and also lol i based my 2gb ram on myself. and since i normally do BIG torrents... only about 10 were running at a time, so it is also user dependant :D

I would go atleast 2GB for 100mbit (dedicated), and as mentioned around 4GB for 1gbit

You should probably list the offer you are considering and if its a shared slot, VPS, dedicated server, etc.

It wouldn't really hurt if you get more than 512MB RAM (and maybe a SATAII HDD too) if you're gonna be doing some heavy torrenting. Torrent clients are pretty demanding on resources especially when processing large chunks of data, handling multiple fast connections on dozens of torrents and hash checking. Additionally, some small memory overhead is needed if each connection is encrypted, but they do add up if you have many torrents. And that's just for the torrent client. If you start adding other services (which I think you would :) ) like a web server, ftp or ssh, each connection to those services will add to the memory load as well.

Well went with the recommendations here and got the two gigs, and it was well worth it, thanks for the good advice.

Been monitoring my seedbox's RAM usage and right now with everything installed and running a modest about of torrents I'm already over the 512mb RAM the lesser box had, and I would of been SOL.
