    Default Question on seedboxes?

I have noticed that many of the seed boxes I see have "rTorrent + ruTorrent webui" What exactly does this mean? Does this mean that I have to use that torrent application and if so which seed boxes can work with Bittorrent?

Yes that means u would have to use the client that is installed on the server [seedbox] unless u have elevated permission to install/compile your own. Most companies do not give u authority to do this, so if u want that then u would have to go with a VPS or a dedicated server and setup/maintain yourself. However, with no experience it can be tough.

Also, im not sure what u meant when u said "which seedbox's can work with bittorrent?" Are u talking about the Bittorrent client or the Bittorrent protocol? Regardless, they can all work with both anyway. All a seedbox is, is torrent & file-sharing apps installed on a computer [server] just dedicated for torrenting and thats it.

Picture one of your home computers in your network with just utorrent, utorrent webui, ftp and remote connection installed. Then to connect to this computer u will either use the remote connection or utorrent webui and control the computer from where your sitting. Thats all a seedbox is, is just a server/computer so it will work with anything u want or whatever u install. I hope i didnt confuse u.

No, your home client will not work with the seedbox. U will need to use the Bittorrent client thats installed on the seedbox to torrent. So if theres only rtorrent installed on the seedbox then thats what u will use. Your client at home will have nothing to do with it and u dont even have to have a client installed at home to use a seedbox.

A seedbox is just another computer in a location somewhere in the world. So when u use a seedbox, u are basically connecting to and using another computer. There is also a bittorrent client already installed on this computer and thats what u use to torrent.

Think of it like this. I have a seedbox at my house with a 100mbit connection for sale. U buy the seedbox from me and then i give u a link, user-name & password. U then proceed to login to the seedbox with the info i gave u. As soon as u login u will see the torrent client running and u would then use it like u normally would any torrent client. So basically u are using the torrent client thats on the seedbox at my house.
