For rookies, nothing beats VNC(remote desktop)+uTorrent. It is just like using uTorrent on your home computer. How much easier could you have asked?

I"ve been using torrentflux-b4rt and rtorrent.

Torrentflux needs mysql, and turned realy slow when i had +100 torrents loaded.

I made the switch to rtorrent + rutorrent. Rtorrent is a commandline torrentclient for linux, and rutorrent is just the web-interface to it. It has some nice plugins available, so you can tweak it to your needs.

You also might have a look at Deluge, i heard some great stuff from it, but it havent any expierence with it.

Dont go the µtorrentway on linux yet. They announced µtorrent would be available on linux soon, so you might check it out in the future, but for now it's a no-go, since you'll be using Wine to trick the apps, so it thinks you are running windows, but in fact it's linux...
Why would you like a windows application running on linux :P
