Thread: ruTorrent settings

Hello.



Can someone tell me how best to set up ruTorrent?
And I mean specifically to connect to more people.
For example: X torrent has 200 peers and 1 seed, and rTorrent connected to 30 peers and 0seeds if it can somehow "tweak" to be able to hook up to more users?
Yesterday I was connected to 5peers, where in reality it was 27

I've Noticed that people with utorrent have a lot better statistics.

Add some lines like the following to your .rtorrent.rc file and restart rtorrent (not rutorrent). These must ALL be tuned to the server it is running on. You can't just set it to 10000000 and think everything will be alright. You must multiply the number of peers by the cache buffers used by each peer then see if that is more or less then the RAM available to rtorrent.

min_peers = 30
max_peers = 60
min_peers_seed = 12
max_peers_seed = 256
max_uploads = 128
max_uploads_global = 256
max_downloads_global = 64

If you go crazy with the numbers your performance will actually degrade.

You do not actually need to restart rtorrent to change any of those settings. In rutorrent interface, you have a settings bottom. Go there and in downloads and connection tab, you can change the peer connection count, upload slot etc.

What you must have in mind is your memory restrictions. If you are given only 400MB RAM, there is no point setting global upload slots to more than 150. In fact if you are also downloading, you may as well set them under 100. I suggest per torrent upload slot set to 25 or less if you are given 500MB RAM or less. Also limit your peer count, 50 is more than enough in most cases.
